Running PSU with no fan

I have an old 450watt "Win power" PSU which I got with a budget PC 5-6 years.
I need to run a couple of fans, so I thought I would be able to do the old paperclip trick to get it running by itself, which worked.

However, the fan inside is very loud and I was wandering if the fan actually needs to be on at all... the only things connected to it would be 2-4 120mm fans so I wouldn't think it should create much heat.

What do you guys think?

The psu will need airflow especially if its a cheap no brand, there is a lot of heat generated when a power supply is being used so i would not try it. You could however turn off the fan in the psu and use a better , quieter one to cool it

Whilst usually true he is only using it to power a couple of fans, which should be maybe 20w or so, hardly a high level of load.

Ah right sorry I mis understood , i thought he meant he would have only a few fans in his tower, sorry.
In that case it should be fine to run it like that for a while but just keep an eye on it
:)

It'll be fine. With a load of 20w and an efficiency of 70% it'll only be dissipating a few watts of heat, which is fine passively.
