Running - Two Questions

Thanks guys, really usefull advice. I'm easing down ready for the 10k now so I'll go for a couple of short runs over the next few days just to keep the legs turning over, the weather is looking reasonable so hoping for an ok time. It's a pretty hilly course using some less than ideal tracks and paths in the woods so I'll be happy with anything under and hour and happier still the nearer I get to 50 minutes. I'm planning to do more 10k's in the future with my aim being to be consistently under 45mins but that will obviously take a bit of time and some more training!

Still not sure on the half think I'll run the 10k and then do a weeks worth of training for the longer distance and see how I feel. I'd only be aiming to finish the half rather than set a decent time, that can weight till the next time!

Not sure if its been mentioned here, but do you do any speed training at all?

Hill sprints, interval training, fart leg, pylometrics and core work?

I have found doing more core work recently, has helped a fair margain.

I've just started to do some speed work as my natural running pace currently looks to be about 50 mins for 10k. I've got a nice hill in the park ready to add some sprints to my routine and I've started to do some general core strength work. If I want to run consistently under 45 mins for 10k and ideally maintain a similar pace for a half marathon distance I definately need to add this sort of thing into the mix.
