Rust - multiplayer survival from the creator of Garry's Mod

I'm on a break too until more content, last time i played for a month or so solid it's addictive and lots of fun to be had in it, once you start to attack other peoples bases and figure out how to get inside in the most effective way to there loot rooms :p

The server I have been playing on with a mate has been wiped, mid population and really enjoyable so if anyone is up for a fresh start come along and we can probably offer a hand, even though we've only been on for 4 hours since the wipe yesterday.

out of curiosity.

1) can you swim in this game? been on the sea cliffs a few times but it never occurred to me to try and swim xD I'm guessing no :p

2) is there an end to the land map? my mate had a go on her pc using my account and when I logged on later she was in the middle of no where. I ran for about 20/30 mins before I died of hunger and didn't see a single resource or house... nothing... so I'm wondering if there is an end to it.

Thinking about stacking up with chicken and just walking into the wilderness and see how far I can go. with a pile of chicken I should be able to keep going for a while :p

No swimming yet, only drowning!

There is nothing in the wasteland, but I believe there is an end to the existing map.. Its not procedurally generated like Dead Linger, but you won't find anything there other than super safe base building spots :p as no one goes there.

Its just a test map right now though and it will be replaced.

ahhh thanks :D yeah that's the thing I was wandering (trying to find civilisation) and thinking..... you know what...... pretty good land out here!

but yeah.... because there's no resources xD so be pretty pants, maybe if you did it at the edge so it's out of the way but still in close enough distance to get some resources/lewt some houses.

I have build bases out there, to the NW and East, which were 5-10 mins run from the nearest resources. This seems far enough for most people not to bother with, so even at that relatively short distance you are very unlikely to be found.
Its better to have other small bases within the normal map area though and use the remote one for main inventory storage.

ay that's what were kinda doing atm on the server we're rolling. got a main house on top of a mountain, then a base at the base of the mountain as like a hunting platform/hiding spot, then we're going to dot some towers about the map as look outs/sniper nests ;)

or atleast....that's the plan... hahaha! xD

Agree with the above point about keeping out of trouble, until you are satisfied that your METAL base will protect you from a pretty hefty raid, i'd steer clear of building in the main resource areas on well established servers otherwise you're asking for trouble.

I tend to stay to the north of the road through Next Valley at the moment on our server, it's within a 5 minute walk of awesome resource spots too and too far out of the way for people to want to risk running around with c4 to raid (not that anyone has C4 yet)

The key is socialising, whether it be for good or for bad... interact with people, it makes it so much more fun.

Most people I've come across are exceedingly anti-social and interacting with them is most definitely a no-no.

I started off being sociable with people, very quickly changed into being a hermit and now pretty much avoid any person I see, even if they're offering to help me out with stuff :D

Thing that gets me though is how a few resources means so little to people once they've got a base up & running etc, but yet they still kill fresh spawns where gathering a tiny amount of resource is like winning the lottery.

haha true.... but to be fair... I would have killed a newspawn yesterday for his bandis as I was running and bleeding out... I only survived because I had a bit stack of food and managed to buffer my depleting HP just enough till i stopped bleeding xD

I bet if you said give me your bandages or i'll kill you they would :D

Got some resources yesterday and managed to make a hatchet (not stone, metal) by using a furnace in a decayed base. Then whilst farming more resources a shot comes out of nowhere and down to 30 odd health. I step out and start throwing out everything from inventory saying i'll give you what i've got (except hatchet admittedly) - he took everything and then his mate killed me :(

Then I set up in some rocks in a good hiding place I use, just a shelter nothing much - guy then comes straight to me a few mins later while I'm crafting (could see his torch so know he wasnt randomly walking about) despite not being able to see me from where he approached and killed me - didn't take anything though, not that I had much of value... Then moved elsewhere and have resumed my runaway from anyone I see tactic :D

Have actually found as a fresh spawn it's worth going to some of the decayed bases as people raiding them don't need stones or pickaxes etc but they're good to have as a freshman.

Cocky's server has expired now? Havent seen it up for 2-3 days now. Please confirm if its gone now and the server list can be updated.

cheers

So whats the consensus on this game, worth the cost? Tempted by it but not sure, are there lots of bugs etc at this stage in development or pretty solid?

everyone on here seems too have quit as nothing new has come out, its quite easy too reach the "end" an have your own house all weapons an stuff

they need too release a lot of new content. an not odd bits like the have the past few patches, seems the population of the offical servers has halfed also

Absolutely yes, 110% worth the mere £15. Hours and hours of fun if you have a group of friends to play with. There aren't many glitches I know of apart from a duplication of items glitch, and there are a fair few hackers, but they're usually dealt with quickly if you're playing on a community server with active admins.

I'd say the opposite, not worth it. Full of hackers and unplayable in its current format where because of a hacker you can lose hours & hours of grinding and be back to nothing but a rock.

Also metaltown on the first page doesn't have any active admin which doesn't help with hackers running amock.

If I didnt feel like my time was worth more i'd be requesting a refund as frankly I have no desire to play the game again as is.

I totally had my moneys worth on this, but you need a good server and group of people on it, even if you like to play solo.

While the games is still in very early development stage, its very playable.

not really played it that much but I'd say I've already gotten my monies worth out of it from pure lolage xD

more stuff keeps getting added and implemented :)

Let me enlighten you. This game is in Alpha. The creators have already said it is only about 10% complete.

It beggars belief how many people don't seem to understand that simple fact.

For a game that is only 10% complete I think its great. Hours of fun to be had and well worth £15.
