Rust - multiplayer survival from the creator of Garry's Mod

Went back to Rust this weekend after ages away... Found the OCUK Server and spent the weekend on me lonesome building a house and getting eaten by bears.... Why do they creep up on you like that sheeeeesh.. Only saw a few people pop on and off.

I digress, is the OCUK Server still alive out there or have you all departed to servers / games anew ?

Rekindled a liking for this game would love to know where you guys are hanging out.

I moved to Arma 3 Breaking point and live on the South African New Haven map, I have a house and some crates in the woods. I love the mod as they're putting out new features every week at the moment.

Has Rust changed much ? I too loved Rust, had all the patterns and a nice mountain house. My interest died off when the various server populations died, I think the server wipes annoyed me a little too.

I keep goin back onto rust to try out house building, running around with rock sometimes clobbering time etc apparently there is supposed to be a nice update today will check that out later on today.

Ps Arma 3 Breaking point mod does that allow people to build houses or is it just occupied with your lock you put on the door ?

You add a lock to one of a number of defined existing houses then add crates, safes, gun lockers and fridges. Nothing as advanced as the Rust construction system sadly, hopefully it'll come. Strongholds are coming though :)

Huh, you can have your own house in Breaking Point now?

I've been watching the development. It is basically an entirely new game, which is good because legacy was fun but it had peaked. I'm holding off playing this until they announce it in some sort of finished state though.

Looking to get back into this after watching some streams the other day, looks quite good now.

One thing that I'm not sure about though, should I be opting-in to any of the beta versions?

There's "development-debug", "legacy", "development", "stable" and "none".

There's plenty of servers that I can't connect to, and I think it's because they are running a different beta... but not entirely sure.

What version do most people use?

Put about 34 hours into this over the past week or so, enjoy several aspects, however they need to sort the hacking out.

Would be cool to get an OcUK crew going on one of the servers, build a big base etc.

I played this quite a lot over a year ago before these big updates, it was great back then just let down a little by lag. Does anyone have a legit server without admins spawning stuff on a whim?

You want to stick to 'none' - that's the current live branch. The rest are development builds which update multiple times a day (and you won't be able to play with those on the live branch).

I currently run one of the largest Rust websites and we've got a server up which has been the most popular one for some time. It's a 'Community' server - so no stupid mods like teleporting, increased gather rate, so on. There's only one admin (me) and I sit in the back and watch over the server so you won't find any abuse. There's an anti-cheat on the server which detects and auto-bans a few hacks instantly (unlike VAC/EAC).

You'll be playing against 150-200 others, but you're more than welcome to pop on. Open the console (F1) and type client.connect 87.98.181.56:27000 or look for the 'PlayRustHQ :: EU' server (usually) at the top of the community list.

Something to bare in mind is that there's various server performance issues which forces populated servers to do a map wipe often - it's unavoidable otherwise you'll be playing with lag which continues to get worse over time. Whilst it does wipe the map data (i.e. bases), it doesn't wipe the blueprint data (i.e. what you can craft). If that's not your cup of tea, then you should find a less populated server (~50-70 players at most) which should last at least 2-3 weeks before needing to do a wipe.

The past ~2 months have been particularly exciting with developments, so it's definitely worth checking out. Be sure to check out Rustafied which is the go-to site for Rust development news.

Did you manage to find a good Rust server ? Or, can anyone else recommend one please ?
