Ruud Boy again!

come on dude, he is top goal scorer in the CL, he is near the top of the premier league top goal scorers. what more do u want? by this, i would say it was £18m well spent. we baught the best finisher on the planet.

soon, if he does start to score from outside the box, you guys will start saying, "no, but i want him to score from the half way line" or "i want to see him score with a blindfold on"

at the end of the day man utd have one of the best mid fields in europe so let them get the ball to him, and he will then use his skill of "finishing" and get the ball into the net.

the midfield just has to get the ball in the box. RvN just has to get the ball into the net. its a lot simpler when u lay it out like this. in teams that dont have such a strong midfield, the striker will have to come deeper, get the ball himself and either 'dribble towards the box and shoot' or 'shoot from long range'.

I hear what you are saying but it because of the midfield that he scores so many goals, I just wonder whether he could do it in a poorer team.

I agree, it does matter where he scores from, because if he consistently gets tapins hes hardly has many skill in the art of scoring. A good striker should be able to score from anywhere and anyhow. RNV only knows how to tap the ball in.

Hardly worth £17,000,000 or however much he cost. Thats why i think he is overated.

It requires skill to get into the positions to score, and some of the goals van scores hardly any other striker could. Need i mention the basle game

also another example of RvN's skill was against bayer leverkusen.

he scored 2 in the first half. then the moment forlan came on at half time (now this guy likes to take pot shots from far out, although he misses most of them lol) the shape of the game changed. its almost like taking off a single player altered completely the way man utd were playing. that is how important RvN is. but why should this be if all he does is "tap in"?

what RvN does is when the ball is played up to him (while his team have just cleared the ball from defence), he holds the ball, and allows the rest of his team mates to run up field, all the time shieding the ball and holding it (not losing it...this is a skill). then he passes it to his midfielders then starts his run towards the goal. by this time, he expects his team mates to have the ball bobbling up and down in the penalty box. and its at this point that he scores. a lot of his goals come in this fashion.

now this strategy works time and time again, against most teams.
why should he change this strategy?

I cant believe the abuse RVN is getting here

If it were Rushy or Lineker who all did the tap in thing they would and have been labelled as gods. However because its a man utd player all he gets is stick.

RVN is the best finisher in the game today IMHO you can bang on about Henry or Raul because they scroe more goals from outside the box but who cares ? a goal is a goal is a goal. They all count and they all win games by shooting from outside the box you stand less chance of scoring than inside the box that is why RVN shots to goals Ratio is far higher than Henry's who lets face it can barely hit the side of a barn with his wayward outside the box shooting. But yet because every now and again he scores a couple everybody raves about him. Yet he misses the simplest of chances i.e 1on1 against Barthez at the weekend Ruud wouldnt have missed that.

And also if you all think Man Utd are overrated then why are we sitting pretty iat the top of our CL group and soon to be top of the PL after beating the reigning champs 2-0 ?

Its not cause were overrated but rather underrated by all you jealous posters.

If he's overrated then it must be easy to score all the 'tap-ins' ( ) he scores.. so why don't all strikers do it? Is the rest of Man Utd's team so wonderful that an average striker can score so many? Andy Cole scored the same 18 as RvN in 2 1/2 times as many CL games.

I'm not sure whether you're serious that RvN is overrated or whether your previously stated hatred of Man U is clouding your judgement. Criticising him cos he 'scores tap-ins' (a ridiculous statement - scoring from a short distance doesn't equal a tap-in!) is ludicrous. He gets into the positions, his workrate and attitude are phenomenal - he's the perfect front man, like a machine - just outstanding. A striker's job is to score, not blast them from 20 yards, you don't get extra points for artistic value, this ain't gymnastics :D :p

exactly

I was just looking through the rule book to see precisely where it says that a goal cannot be scored unless the attacking forward has jinked his way past six opponents before firing an unstoppable rocket of a shot from outside the 18yd box, or even the 6 yd box.:p

A goal is a goal however it is scored and wherever it is scored from. And ANY football manager would just love to have a player in their team who scored as prolifically as RvN.

Jimmy Greaves, Dennis Law to name a couple of the oldies, and Robbie Fowler (pre injury days) all prowled the penalty area very effectively. Oh and there's also Alan (Sniffer!) Clarke. Even Gilly will remember him "sniffing" a goal here or there for Don (although that was in the "glory" days!).

Putting the ball in the oponents net, however it's done, is one hell of a skill. A skill knowledgable managers will pay any amount of good money for. So before you "go off on one" having a "dig" and RvN,s goal scoring exploits, at least engage brain before lifting typing finger.;)

:D
