RV770 expected to release in May?

well we have just to wait and see when they will be released and some reviews done on them as for now on im happy with 8800gts g92 :)

Yeah the 8800's take a bit of a hit at using AA to, i remember in Fear with my 8800 GT, used to get a minimum of about 65-67 with 2xAA, but up it to 4x and that would plummet to a minimum of about 40-41.

Anyone else feel like slappin two 4870X2s in there system and just being done with it ?

:)

Will wait for benches before making any assumptions on what I would like to get :)

Am hoping a single 4870 will be up to the task of running Crysis on high at 1680 x 1050 with 4xAA at around 40 to 50 fps.

And before any says "ah, the game sucks, why do you care and it runs fine at 30 fps anyway", I am using it as a benchmark. A card capable of those settings is likely to run any other game very well at similar settings for some time to come.

So my interest in running Crysis at those settings, is to be able to run future games at those settings for at least a year.

Am doubting a single one of these will be up to that task though. I hope I am proved wrong.

I would depending on benches and so on but then if you think straight some new cards will come out eventually and you have to upgrade again and u will need to get rid of them.

The R700's are the reason I only brought a 3650 when I recently brought a new pc. What they have done with the filtrate and memory bandwidth look great. It's good news that their only using ddr5 for their retail cards. Hopefully I will be able to overclock a 4850 a far bit (way past 4870 stock levels).

Oh and I read somewhere that the R7xx's will be the last of the big cores with the new generations using lots of smaller chips.

Is it May yet? :D

Those rumours've been flying about since the 8800 series were announced. Okay, in part, the G80 core is just lots of little processors on one die.

all that speed and no aa as ati suck at sorting software out and their hardware for games
however they will bench at 1280x1024 with no aa for 3dmark 06 perfect

Shhhh now :) what Lightnix posted proves your comment to be wrong. :)

I also read somewhere that the 4870X2 won't need a bridge chip, leading to increased efficiency when scaling

They need to hurry up with the 48XX cards! Will be very interesting if they don't need a bridge chip for the X2 version, if it's true, would kind of explain why ATi were not too bothered about putting a PCI-E 2.0 chip on the current X2s.

I really do hope that all this speculation transfers into real life performance. It would suck to see the 48xx only just beating the likes of the 8800ultra.

I woulda assumed the 4870XT would match or just beat the 3870X2 and perhaps take over its £200ish price tag, we definatly need the 4870X2 around £400ish to show Nvidia there still around and mean business but it aint gonna happen if they dont release it May/June imo :)

I got a bad feeling the 4870X2 will just about beat the 9800GX2, and then Nvidia will drop a hammer on them shortly afterwards.

ATi have stated that they want to keep their top end cards at the $500 or below mark, so there isn't going to be any £400 ATi cards. The new cards are meant to adopt the release prices of the 3XXX series. :)

$500 IS £400 in UK prices.

Not really no, it's more £300 when VAT is added on. When the 3870X2 was released stateside, it was $450. Here, you've been able to get it sub £300 since release, I think some people got theirs for £260 actually, which is great considering the usual rip-offs that we get hit with on new releases.

Edit, some prices of the X2 actually worked out the same as US price + VAT. $450 = £225 x 1.175 (VAT) = £265.

Regardless if ATI knew they had a graphics card that beat Nvidias latest high end card you can bet just like any other company they will increase the price to make profit :)
