RX 7900 GRE

Let’s hope AI calms down then Nvidia will have to bring their A game if they want to maintain the same pricing.

unless this is priced at £500 max then it’s pretty much DOA whatever they call it.

I love this quoted out of the context of the separate questions, its so fitting to what you're actually saying :D Nvidia gets a free pass for doubling pricing while AMD are expected to cut priced to half the level of Nvidia's previous generation.

Buy a console... get out of PCMR, please you're ruining it for the rest of us

The point I'm making is if Nvidia wants to maintain the current pricing for next gen they they need insane performance boosts at every tier and the same goes for AMD, every tier needs at least a +70% gain with the 4070 and below closer to 90%.

I expected 7800xt would have same specs as 7900gre but oh boy that's bad

So the 7800xt basically has the same performance as the 6800xt

Well done, if thisnis over $399 it's over priced

Oh this?

Crikey... its the same as the RX 6800 but with 19% higher boost clocks and 12% higher memory clocks, its should match the RX 6800XT.

For the right price, $579? its fine but are they really calling it the 7800XT?

So they named this this 7900GRE and people are saying this is about 15% faster than a 6800XT which puts it within 10% of a 3080 10GB that came out nearly three years ago that launched during the pandemic/mining boom and cost at the time $50 more.
Just quoting myself here as more information has come out so its pretty much a 3080 10GB three years later with an extra 6GB of VRAM... this is the card for all you people who got so salty over the 3080.

AMD have even been kind enough to give it to you close to the 3080 10GB FE msrp also.

If one can get a 6800XT for a good price then its an option.

Unsure why there are all these RTX 3080 comparison.

The real comparison is the 6900XT or 6950XT. Same performance, same VRAM, same price.

100W less. Guess that's as good as it gets in 2023 :-(

Yes, same price is of the 69x0 after the boom but that's only fair.

EDIT: Computerbase had it exactly at the 69x0 performance not only in raster but in ray tracing too. While I'm not in the "ray tracing is the best thing since sliced bread"* camp, that is disappointing too.

* To me, sliced bread usually means sliced factory toast bread which I can't stand, so that expression doesn't work for me anyhow.

If people did that it would look very unfavourable. The 6950 XT handily beats it for a cheaper price. You also get Starfield premium.

My late purchase of a 6950XT red devil for 600ish quid looks like a better and better deal as time moves on. You would think this is some serious 4d chess move on their part but knowing AMD/Radeon Group(and I really do enjoy their hardware) it's most likely not :P. Gonna grap some popcorn and watch this mess unfold.

I don't get how the GRE is so much worse than the 6950XT. Is it down to clocks speeds or double the amount of infinity cache on the 6000? The GRE has far more ROPS and the same number of shader cores yet doesn't do much with them. Clock for clock is RDNA3 any better than RDNA2 outside of RT?

I just watched the HWB video that performance was tragic and that's me being generous. Considering the 7800xt is even more cut down than the GRE I don't even see it matching the 6800xt but see it as being worse. Considering you can buy the 6800xt for £500 I would agree with you that it needs to be about £400 at best, otherwise you have 0 peformance increase in 4 years and it's literally worse than a refresh.

AMD could save money by just putting 6800xt is in a new box that says 7800xt.
