Ryzen 5 3600 Stock Situation

Hes looking for brand new.

What about Ryzen 3 3100 or 3200G?

Its a 1080p gaming PC with a 5500XT.

I mentioned for his £700 budget a 3600 is the best option for future proofing. Should be hold off and pray he gets one before xmas or can he go for the CPUs above?

The Ryzen 5 3500x is out next week, but it's a 6 core 6 thread CPU, so ok for gaming, but weak for multi thread work. Very similar to a i7-7700k and the Ryzen 3 3300x.

I had a 3600 for about three weeks for exactly that reason. I wanted to be able to use my PC while I waited for my 5950x to arrive, and the 3600 was good enough as a stop gap. It also made it easier to upgrade the BIOS in anticipation of the 5950x. I got really lucky with mine, I paid £140 for it on a popular auction site, and sold it for £160. I effectively broke even, once you take fees and shipping into consideration. It seems to be the same with graphics cards; sucks for anyone who just wants to build a decent gaming rig at the moment!

5600 would be a mass market product i.e. the majority of sales and that would require abundant stock and there simply isn't any?
 
I'm getting so frustrated by the stock situation now. I thought I had a cpu coming but never arrived so that got cancelled. Now I'm just hoping that something comes back. I don't think the 3600xt is worth the extra over the 3600 so I don't really want to go with that. The 3700x have barely reduced in price for the last 10 months. At this point last year the 2700x was around £200. No 5600x or above in stock. Black Friday prices on CPUs have been a joke. How much longer do you wait and keep hoping.

They were, excellent budget gaming option if you could get them. Basically i7 7700K performance 3 years later for well under half the price. The 3600 at £150 was even better but that didn't last long and now looks a distant memory.
 
The 3600XT is £225. Is thst worth it instead of £200 for 3600?

If someone wanted a gaming pc step down from 3600 thats in stock what is the best bet?

Prices for new stuff sucks, a 3600 should be £150, get a secondhand 2600 or 2700x if you can't find anything new

Just wait unless you really need a new CPU. I am on an older Ryzen 5 and the prices mean I am unlikely to upgrade and buying at a higher price means you are basically justifying the situation. The other alternative is too look at something such as the Core i5 10600KF which is around £220 and faster than any Ryzen 5 3600 model in gaming.
 
One of my friends settled for a Ryzen 3 3100 (£100) to game on for now.. told him he would need an upgrade earlier due to 4 core but he was happy with it.

The other is either going to hold off for 3600 to appear at least £180-200 or pay £24 more for a 3600XT.
 
Ok seems like 3600 arent appearing till near the end of the month and 3600X and XT are same situation.

What would be an AMD cpu worth getting thats similar spec to the 3600 or do I need to take a drastic downgrade to a 3100?

Why don't you just wait?? The issue here is the Core i5 CPUs haven't jumped up in price,and a Core i5 10600KF is quicker at £225 than a Ryzen 5 3600/3600X/3600XT at a similar price.

The Ryzen 3 3100 is also a waste of money - its also jumped up in price. Now the Core i3 10100F(which is faster in gaming),costs £30 less.

If you keep buying a stop-gap here,and a stop-gap there,you are throwing away money. That wasted money could be put towards a better CPU than a Ryzen 5.

When more stock actually lands,hopefully prices will go down again.

I had a brief look about the Web. AMD, Microsoft & Sony are all livid that they are not able to supply the demand. Basically they are losing money currently. Sony game sales cannot peak because no new consoles to set them going. Same with Xbox Series and AMD are also seriously missing out on dominating the cpu market.
Gpu's a similar story. Production can't keep up and considering what century we are in I'd expect a better show rather than saying its covid and the demand is high. Covid been about since Jan last year. Isolate the factory and feed us our tech. Keep us waiting and we will get rather hissy.
 
Downside is that all his parts are already ordered including a B450 motherboard so Intel is a no go..

So the only reasonable options are:

A. Overpay for a R5 3600/3600XT. (Or hold off and see if they reduce in price)
B. Hold off to get a 5600X but need to wait until January for the BIOS update to support them for B450.
C. Get a hold of a second hand 3600 for under £200.

Sound right? There is no other options I should explore?
 
Similar situation for me. I've been buying be bits and pieces when I've seen them at a good price and the CPU I did order fell through. So I have a MSI x570 tomahawk I got for £180, patriot viper steel 4x8gb 4100mhz for £160 and a scythe fuma 2 for £50 (as my current cooler doesn't have a AM4 adaptor and I can't find one). So I'm already to go apart from the CPU.

Good luck getting a 3100, because almost everywhere is "temporarily out of stock". Those that aren't have pushed the prices up significantly.

I have a full build waiting for a CPU, but at this rate may return the motherboard and switch to Intel.

The 3600 isn't going to reduce in price. It's been on an upward trajectory for months and is now completely sold out.

That doesn't give me any confidence that price drops are near. It may simply go EOL and that's that.
