Ryzen 5600x vs 3700x

No worries, it was just the way you worded your reply to Foxeye (the post I quoted) read to me as you were saying the last gen consoles used Jaguar, and when you then said at the end "they are also jaguar based" I thought you were referring to the new consoles, as that was the last thing foxeye said in the post you quoted him on (hope that makes sense!)

I get ya, I was just trying to get across how number of cores <> overall performance and that overall performance is a better metric to justify performance than an arbitrary number of any given core. :D

Gotcha!

Yup, the 5600x is easily beating a 3700x which is basically what's in the new consoles, so I can't see the 3700x performing better than a 5600x in games over the next 5 years.

i wonder if the same will hold true of the 3800XT vis-a-vis the 5600X...?

n.b. i have skin in the game - having just bought one for £327 (i already have a noctua cooler - and i want farcry6).

Chips like the i5 4690k were much faster than the ps4/xbox CPU but that didn't stop them tanking in games a few years later but having the extra cores from an even older i7 2600K held out better even though it was 16% behind the i5 in IPC.

Yes it holds. A 3800XT is basically an overpriced 3700X, at least at regular prices. When PBO is enabled you'd be hard pressed to tell the difference.

Get a 5600x, I love mine. Maintain 400fps in Overwatch and CPU runs at 20% usage..to me that's amazing coming from 4690k averaging 200fps at 90% CPU usage lol

fair enough.

choice already made for me as i installed a 3800XT last night.
but i got it for £326, already have a noctua cooler, and want facry6.

so quite comfortable with my purchase. :)

Currently on a 3700x with some undervolting which is now running pretty cool in my mini itx case. Hoping for a 5700x or lower priced non x versions :)

Currently when I open my wallet, moths fly out :D

The game effectively puts the 3800xt at quite a large discount so yeh it's not too bad.

If there was stock at msrp, 5600x would have been better imo, but there isn't.

What's the consensus on PRODUCTIVITY? I know for gaming the 5600X is the obvious choice over the 3700X, but when it comes to productivity, I'm less clear. What will actually utilise those extra 2 cores in real world day to day use, not just benchmarks? Is there a solid argument for choosing the 3700X, with the price being almost equal? Apart from the obvious fact you can't actually obtain a 5600X yet.

Generally, things you *wait* for. Compiling, rendering, encoding, compressing etc. Those tasks are likely to be marginally faster on the 3700X. However, even if you are not a gamer, the single thread boost on the 5600X probably makes the system nicer to use.

My 5600X arrived today. I’ll be dropping out my 3700X which has been in there all of 5 days tomorrow I think. Just waiting for a new AIO to arrive.
