Just an opinion but since the forums has a connection with the shop, can the search not be restricted to hardware only?

The Hardware sections are the backbone for these forums and the OcUk website does point to the forums for support?

There's a lot of duplicate questions being raised there and I personally see this being more important than GD etc..

Hi,

The issue of searches taking too long and causing locking problems wouldn't be helped by restricting it to particular forums. Deleting every post in GD might though :p

Have to agree the hardware sections especially general hardware is really suffering at the moment.

It would be helped; you would have to empty the search index and then disable indexing for whatever forums do not need searching, then rebuild the index. Thus, searching a smaller index = less load = faster.

Or, MySQL Fulltext searching could be used, instead of VB's own search index for a much lighter load.

Maybe we could get search back but not for guests and limited to one search each 5 minutes? :D

Search is disabled for guests anyway. We're working on a solution, just hang in there fellas!
