S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl only £3.50 on STEAM!

The outdoor bits look pretty good without any mods (max detail/AA & AF, 1920x1200). Indoors does look a bit ropey, though, where they can't compensate for the low res textures with lots of detail.

I'll have a go at applying the mods this evening. I'm sure it's a great game. It'll just take me a while to settle into it.

Got this over the weekend, why not for the price of a pint?!

Took me a while to stop dying and to remember to save. Starting to like it a lot now though.

Is there any kind of quick switch or quick knife melee? I keep on running out of bullets when someone is a foot away from me and want to knife them (too much COD4).

I absolutely love the Stalker series..i picked up Shadow of Chernobyl for 4 pound in a sale.My first impressions of the game were not very good, after an hour or so playing the game i turned it off and uninstalled it.

Then one day i decided to give it another shot, and ended up completing it twice, once the vanilla game and then with the Oblivion lost mod.The trouble with the game is it doesn't start off with a bang, you're not some kind of super soldier,it's just you,a couple of rubbish guns and a large deadly and bleak landscape to explore, but once you get into it there isn't anything else quite like it :)

Exact same story for me. Bought it, hated it, stopped playing it after a couple of hours in the rather boring first area of the zone.

A few months later came back to it, got a bit further (really picks up for me when you meet the two factions) and thought it was outstanding.

Still not quite sure how I won the game though, I ran through a whole load of radiation taking serious amounts of med packs- pretty sure that I didnt do it properly.

had to reinstall SoC because it just couldn't get past the crashing stage.
this time I just installed Oblivion Lost and the repair mod and so far it's been fine.

if you have SoC sat somewhere gathering dust I would really recommend downloading and giving oblivion a go cause it smartens the grafix right up and adds lots of new dimensions to the original game.

That doesn't sound like the right way, I managed to get the 'right' ending without realising it at the time, I ended the zone!

Where can you find the mod for it? Is it pretty stable yeah?

Don't play Oblivion Lost on your first play through. It not only changes a lot, it also makes it a lot harder.

Your much better off getting the Complete 2009 mod which is mainly just a few tweaks and additions and the odd bug fix, along with a massive graphic overhaul which makes the game look a lot better and as good as any game out there at the moment.

p.s. A tip for anyone struggling at the start: In the newbie camp where you start out, you can find a real good piece of armour up in the roof of one of the buildings. Just go up the ladder to a loft, but don't go in. Just slide around the side until your on the roof proper and then jump the building behind it. You'll find the armour at the back of that one (look on youtube if you still can't find it).

I just googled it and it came from fileplanet I think.
so far it's been very stable - I think the problems I had were down to trying to run at the same time as Stalker Complete 2009.
since reinstalling I had only one crash to desktop and on reload it worked fine.

I have made it to the Army base so far.

Maybe I'm just lazy but why is there such little dialogue in this game? I get bored of reading everything. :o

Is it just me or you just spoke two contradictory statements?

BTW, the dialogue is there to give the world a flavour, to know what is going on and get some backstory.Nobody forces you to read, it is there for those that like it.I love it, there is a reason why Planescape Torment is one of the best games ever for me :P

Was gutted i missed the £3.50 offer on steam

But food shopping this morning at the supermarket, spotted Stalker for £6, then went though the till at £4 :D

Installing now !

OK, after the initial 'WTF, I keep dying!', it's actually a very very good game. Just keep going for the headshots, anything else is pointless.

Is this game sexy or what.
