Hi!

Years ago in i assume a steam sale i picked up this game and i believe its sequel in the hope of getting into it! i didnt give it much time back then but it recently came up again in a conversation and i thought it would retry it!

i have just installed the Autumn mod which does make the environments look a lot better.

my main gripe at the moment is the U.i and map system feeling very bad but thats probably due to its age.

i managed to find the first quest and must say the fire fight was very intense i loved it! I set it to master and turned off cross hairs etc.

any pro tips or advice for a new comer? i understand master is the better choice as the weapons actually do more damage to you but also to the enemies making that quite a positive point?

I played it last year for the first time. It's an excellent game that starts off difficult but gets a little easier as you acquire better weapons. I was really enjoying it but ultimately the map and difficulty finding some missions after travelling long distances put me off slightly and I haven't went back to it for a while. I do intend to go back to though - I've had 30 happy games hours with so far. It has it's own unique feel to it...

In my opinion you should play STALKER: Call of Pripyat first. It's a more refined game, has a better enviromental system, and in some places with the lights turned off is proper poop your pants scary :)

Why would you play the second one first...?

Op: A brutal and terrifying game and one of my favourites of all time. Not sure what I always played it on, but it can be pretty unforgiving on the harder difficulty settings, but whatever you're into ;)

Pretty thorough mod:

Really wanted to carry on last night but couldnt get passed the error. Maybe i should cut my losses reinstall and play without the mod, but it looked really nice!

I hear this one is great too^

Just reinstalled, looks much worse without the mid but what if I get really far and it bugs out again hmmm. I'll try the complete mod instead and see how I get on with that! I hear some say that mod makes it a bit too easy over the vanilla game but I imagine that's super pro stalker fans not liking change? Lol

There are 3 Stalker games, The release order was Shadow of Chernobyl, Clear sky and then Call of Pripyat. The trilogy time-line has Clear sky first then SOC and then COP. COP is a more rounded release simply because it was the last one and they improved the engine and gameplay aspects as time moved on.

As mentioned if you only plan on one playthrough of each using a mod like Complete for SOC is okay as it does not make any storyline changes, However Complete for COP is a mess so avoid that one, Although it is best to play them without mods once if you want mods for COP these two are compatible with each other and improve the game visually.

These are the go to mods for COP.

The STALKER series are fab. Very niche though, and the first will fill dated now sadly. If you look closely to NPCs, for example, they will look poor. However, it is overall still a very good looking and atmospheric game. Even better once you start modding.

Play it through, then go find a group that takes tours of the real thing and honestly feel like you're re-visiting the place.

First time I went to Pripyat it felt like coming back to a place I knew.

Love SOC, with the complete mod, can never get past The Bar though for some reason, i always get to there, then just stop playing, and its odd, as its great up to there, just don't know why i never continue.:p

Won't spoil the ending but will say I never really understood it and it must have took me about 1000 ******* attempts to get to it!

Bloody hard game but very enjoyable.

The S.T.A.L.K.E.R games were one of best games. I remember playing each one through 2 times and just could not get how much it dragged you in!

Enjoy them with minimal mods, I only put graphical mods on :D
