S2000 owners thread. 9,000rpm of goodness in here.

Been seriously hankering after another S2000 so think I might put the Bullitt up for sale and start searching for a good un. Hopefully I've got a mate who can store it for me during the winter months and the plan is to keep it indefinitely. Think a clean little MK7 Fiesta ST would be an ideal little run around to have alongside it and to keep it out the nasty weather.

Assuming 15k is enough to get a decentish one?would like a couple k set aside for some bigger maintenance jobs.
 
£15k is on the low end of 'decent one' money but can be done. Mine was around that and is very well sorted.
£15k seems to be a bit of a minefield at the moment though. There are lots of utterly shagged ones being sold by dreamers in that price bracket. A few gems too though. It seems that £18k is where all the really good ones are at the moment. No idea whether they are selling for that though. Several I see on AT and PH are still there from when I was looking back in March.

There was one I looked at that had tears in the roof (despite me asking whether they were there and being told "no"), was missing it's oval exhaust surrounds, had a tear in the drivers side arm-rest, and when started sounded like the cam chain was trying to exit the car! "It's mint mate, one of the best out there". Yeah..... no.

I could afford to go higher for the right one but just have a bit of a mental block approaching the 20k mark for one. Fully aware I'll no doubt end up wasting a fair bit of time sorting through the nails.

Goodrich braided brake lines
Tegiwa master cylinder brace
Enough MT3 to do the transmission fluid
Enough gear oil to do the diff fluid

ohlins are epic to be honest so money well spent.

mine is in for some work..

valve clearances
fast road/track alignment
valve cover gasket
high boil brake fluid
front and rear lower bushes splitting so replaced with powerflex purples

near £1k bill

but.. this is the biggest bill bar servicing since I got it in 2018 lol.

They really are pretty reliable cars. Nothing went wrong with my last one in the 5 years and 40k miles I had it. All I did was change fluids, consumables, do clearances, and put fuel in it.
Hopefully this one will be much the same, although when I had my last one it was only 5 years old when I got it. This one is 19 years old and so things are bound to fail at some point.
 
More money spent.
I can’t quite get comfortable in my current S2000 when compared to my last one and was wracking my brains as to why. I checked back on stuff I did to that one and remembered I had fitted the BYS lowered seat rails which drops the seat by around 20 to 25mm. Bingo!

I have one in mine, does make a huge difference to the position.

had my tracking done, 2.3deg camber up front, huge change in the way she handles now.

Wheels in motion did mine after poly bushing and Koni install which was a nightmare as all the bolts stuck (and expensive) But worth it as it handled so much better.

The spoon underbody brace is deffo something to get.

Think I was 2 deg each corner

my go to is always r2 automotive. They know what they're doing when it comes to hondas.

lucky enough no seized bolts etc, was all free, apparently very unusual with the s2ks. But last time it was done, when it was at 22k ish miles, the bolts were greased up - or so I was told.

Surely out of the city = excellent country roads? I found my S2000 to be very comfy as a daily commuter. Wouldn’t be without heated seats now though!

It’s more the miles I put on it. Goes from being a fun car to having to drive every where all the time rather than having everything on my doorstep. I’ve been very very lucky that I’ve not lost money on cars and I’d rather not put 20k boring daily miles on the car in the next year or two, then sell it at a loss.

I get that, depends whether you’re planning to sell up anyway I suppose. If you’re doing some miles you’ll be losing money on a car regardless. I’d prefer to lose the money driving an interesting car rather than a boring one, but appreciate there are many factors. There’s usually a cost to change with these things too.

meh, cars are to be used. Enjoy it. S2ks can take their miles too with basic maintenance. There's the "getting used to it and it not feeling as special thing"

different deal if you're looking for a reason to sell it tho, I always thought "oh my 30k mile s2k is going to be worth more if I don't do xyz or track it etc" but I bought it for this reason alone, to be fun toy and I'm going to use it. Who cares about resale. I'm not there yet and a couple k either way is not going to change my life. Especially compared to a more boring car that will depreciate quicker.
 
Off to view one over the weekend.

Put off the car hunt for a few weeks but a guy that contacted me a few weeks back is keen for me to go see it.

He's been upfront about it, it's low mileage, a good year, but has some things that will need to be addressed.

A wheel refurb all round though they look ok, but would be something I'd like to do.

What's the general cost of such work? Never had it done.

Also has a few marks to the boot lid. This is all stuff he was planning on doing, then selling nationally for a higher price soon but will let it go for less without carrying out this work.

This is the mark to the boot lid. So would be looking at getting the whole boot lid resprayed I guess?
