Sad, but inevitable

I always wonder how people end up on the wrong side of dual carriageways etc.

It's not that big a stretch of the imagination that this person could have been under the influence of drugs/alcohol, or in some other mentally confused state because of some psychological disorder.

This accident happened last night and the car was driven by an elderly couple according to reports on local radio.

I sat on the A38 going nowhere for 45 minutes this morning. It was fun and exciting.

Why do we have to take so much bloody pity on everyone else these days? Madeleine? I don't give a ****! These randomers in a car crash? Don't give a ****!

When I die, I would be quite offended if anyone other than my family and friends were in any way affected. If, when I was alive, you didn't know me, you weren't touched by me emotionally, or you didn't have any idea that I even existed, then what gives you the right to pay your respects to me just because I've died?

I know what you mean, you're talking about false sympathy. It comes across that people are feigning sadness when they don't really care and they think it's the thing to do.

Well, people can still recognise a sad situation for what it is without feeling sadness. In the case of the woman with the car, it is a sad - and slightly stupid situation - but for me to say I felt genuine sadness for those involved would be incorrect because I don't know them. I can see that it's a terrible situation which will affect others badly though.

There's a basic function in decent people, it's called empathy.

Pretty unusual for someone to not even realise they're going down the wrong side of the road.

O/T - But is this just an overzealous traffic warden?

Whether you feel empathy is not the point.

The simple fact is you don't make light of a bad situation where people and those close to them have been hurt because of it.

Should a car accident personally affect you one day you're saying we can crack jokes about it without causing offence?

It's not even about paying your respects, it's about showing respect - there is a difference. Trying to take the **** shows a complete lack of respect, simply saying nothing would be better.

I'm not mourning, nor do I feel any sense of personal loss from this story. That doesn't mean I'm going to use it to try and get a cheap laugh.
Which part of that quote makes it look like I'm 'feigning sadness'? ;)

If some people don't think twice about making light of a situation in which people were killed then fine, but that doesn't make it right. I wouldn't do it to someone I knew personally and I have no more reason to do it about people I don't know simply beacuse of the anonymity the internet grants.

No part - I wasn't talking about you specifically. I was saying that it comes across that way with certain people.

Those making jokes really are a depraved lot.

But if it makes them feel better about themselves, I guess there's a reason.

If I took everything on the news to heart I'd be pretty sad and depressed. I can put on an emotional head for those who I dont know, but in reality - I wouldn't really give a ****. Yeah, ok death isn't nice, but it happens...
When I hopefully/eventually get into forensics, you think I'm gonna be crying at every scene I go to? Death is death, no matter what form it takes - Its just another lifeless body to me, and I don't particularly want to get attached to it by knowing the specifics.
