How did Iraqi's choose to end his life? They were consulted in any form of referrendum, quite rightly, I cannot think of my worse that a death sentence imposed due to subjective and ignorant public opinion.

I can along assume you mean the judges? Would that the judge who resigned because of interference from the US governemnt demanding a guilty verdict? Was is the chief defense lawyer that was murdered amoungst alligations of torture of defense witnesses and Saddam himself?

Whether someone is executed (I am against the death penalty anyway) is simply not a matter of public opinion, it requires a guilty verdict by a fair and established court. It is the worst form of victors justice that can create a court of it's choosing, and put enough pressure on it to deliver the verdict it wants. I believe it is against the Geneva convention for an occupying force to establish a court of their own and prosecute the rulers of the defeated nation. Not that breaking its terms has ever stopped the US doing what it likes before....

The Iraqi court system chose to end his life then, it was a distinction between them and the UK/US. The death sentence is a punishment that is open to them through Iraqi law, and has been for some time. The judges chose that punishment; all prominent figures in the Iraqi justice system. It had nothing to do with public opinion unless the judges say otherwise. I don't agree with it but I don't think the UK forcing the Iraqi's into changing it is going to help anyone.

Once again people assume the USA had full control over the court and its verdict but there is no actual hard evidence. People may THINK they know but they don't and it's getting tiring hearing it in every thread we have on the subject.

The judge that resigned apparently had close ties to dissidents and was inexperienced. Whether that was because of the USA is irrelevant because the judges chose their own leader, the US had nothing to do with it.

And are you saying the US had a hand in eliminating Saddam's defence team? Source for that?

I prefer to take the court at face value and keep the anti-american rhetoric at a minimum.

So if you believe the judgement was nothing to do with public opinion, do you believe the court was fair?
