Sadiq Khan’s ‘affordable’ homes include £2,400-a-month rental flats, and these are one beds. This guy needs to go, but £2400 is just insane rents specially these are targeted at low income earners. More like profits for developers or there respective Housing associations.

I can’t read the article but the term “affordable” has long been a joke when it comes to housing. All it means is 80% of market rate. So when you’re dealing with such an over inflated property market as ours- they end up nowhere near affordable.

Did you even look at the article you posted?
I can't read the whole thing, but it appears those "affordable" homes were part of a deal that was agreed upon by his predecessor, one Alexander Boris de Pfeffel Johnson.
The rules were put in long before Boris, they could have been changed after Boris but he didn’t.

Your argument holds no water, rules can always be changed, if each mayor wants them to changed.

They were put in so H.A can make profits, it a scam allow big landlords to milk the system. Just like shared ownership same as timeshare, but much worse.

It is a legalised scam, only to benefit the wealthy.

"Khan has long sought new powers to freeze rents, but ministers have rebuffed him."
80% rents is not part of that. Khan wanted private landlords to freeze rents.
H.A are not private and are not in the same group as councils, they are in the middle.

80% rents are for H.A, H.A have the final say what they charge and what group the place the property. H.A could place their entire stock as none affordable etc. and affordable means up to 80%. Meaning H.A can rent them at 50%.

If you look deeper you find H.A are own buy various equity companies each having their own covenant.

People need to understand H.A and affordability is a legalise scam, and they need to wake up to that.

Pretty much robbing the council ( council tax payers) in legal way, transferring council assets into private ownership at a massive discount.

Biggest money laundering scam I have ever seen.

Sadiq Khan is facing criticism over his housing policy after it emerged that he has marketed “affordable” one-bedroom flats for Londoners which cost £2,415 per month.

The Mayor of London operates a website, Homes for Londoners, aimed at helping people in the capital on “low to middle incomes” find an “affordable home”.

This includes tenancies offering below-market rent, which are supposed to help tenants save towards a deposit to buy their own homes.

However, among the properties listed on the website are one-bedroom flats in Nine Elms Lane, close to Battersea Power Station, with prices starting from £2,415 per calendar month.

Last month, Mr Khan took to Twitter to denounce the fact that the average private rent in London had hit “an eye-watering £2,500 a month” - almost the same as the Nine Elms Lane flats.

Prices for two-bedroom flats in the development meanwhile start at £3,010.

According to the Mayor’s website, apartments in the “fabulous riverside location” feature “unparalleled amenities”, including “swimming pools, sky lounge bars, roof terraces, gyms and even pet spas, offering an exceptional rental lifestyle”.

The website adds that the kitchens “are equipped with Smeg appliances while bedrooms are comfortably furnished with plush carpets and built-in wardrobes”.

The Conservatives have leapt on the news of the expensive flats to question Mr Khan’s housing record.

Shaun Bailey, the former Tory mayoral candidate who is the party’s housing spokesman in the London Assembly, said: “There is nothing genuine or affordable about Sadiq Khan’s housing policies.

“Not only is he throwing together one-bedroom flats in a desperate attempt to keep up with his targets, he is stretching the definition of affordable by marketing them for an eye-watering £2,415 per month.

“The Mayor has had billions in funding from the Government and yet he is failing to deliver. Londoners deserve so much better than this.”

However, Mr Khan hit back at the criticism by claiming that the Nine Elms development was signed off by his predecessor, Boris Johnson, who stood down as mayor in 2016.

A spokesman for the mayor said: “These particular homes were approved by the previous mayor under his much wider definition of affordable housing which benchmarked rents at up to 80 per cent of market levels.

“Sadiq ditched this definition when he became mayor and after years of under-investment from the Government, is extremely proud to have started a record-breaking 116,000 genuinely affordable homes, the equivalent of a city the size of Plymouth, despite unprecedented economic turbulence.

The spokesman for Mr Khan added: “In the last year alone, work started on more than 25,000 affordable homes, more than treble the level managed at the end of the previous mayor’s term in office.

“His calls for Government to freeze private rents for two years to help struggling renters continue to fall on deaf ears.”

That is only financial, and for links to other cities. But truly a dump of a city, and I live in one of the best parts and still think it is a dump.

It's like anything, it's what you make it. I lived in west London for years and worked in the city and the west end. I loved it then and I still do. Perhaps you should try and have a more positive attitude to life.

Sorry but London is a scam city, and dump of a city. Tell you the truth you don’t see it, or see how it really works.

Don’t take offence to this but majority that live in London do not really know how it works.

Logan run would be equivalent in nature.
It is the most corrupt city in this planet, base on valuation of transactions.
