Hey guys,

Looking to change from drinking soft drinks to tea, hoping this will be healthier and that i will feel better.

Been looking at this tea maker "Sage by Heston Blumenthal the Tea Maker" wondering if any of you guys would recommend it or is it all hype?

I know you could make tea manually, but im pretty lazy a tea maker would mean the difference between success and failure in changing to tea.

Also can you spec me a good tea site, so far seen teapigs that looks good, new to this so need advice on good site, thinking peppermint, green and earl gray, any other recommendations?

Ps. If this is to replace soft drinks and to be consumed in the same quantities is there any down side to drinking a lot of tea? (2-4 litres a day?)

2 - 4 litres of tea a day .. ?

thats a lot of caffeine for starters.

also that seems really expensive for a kettle

Ha, that's a ridiculously expensive kettle!

My tip would be to get a simple kettle and tea pot with tea leaf holder. Alternatively if it's just one mug then use something like a tea infuser. If you're in a hard water area you might want to invest in a water filter and then just fill the kettle with that.

A lazy tea maker? You just have to boil the kettle in the same way and pour it out. :D

This kettle will revolutinise the way you drink tea. To extract the most delicate flavours, different teas need to be steeped at different temperatures and for different times. A motorised basket automatically lowers tea leaves into and out of the water at precisely the right time. It has fifteen pre-programmed settings, plus fully variable temperature, tea strengths and custom controls.

Blimey, not that revolutionary for £200.

There is a tea drinker's thread here that might have some info to help you:

I like my Breville Hot Cup.

You could buy a teapot and that may assist?

A samovar or tea urn could also be the answer

Thanks for the replies guys..i have bought some tea, peppermint that i know i like and about 20 diff types in a sample kit.

Still not sure about the tea maker, iam really impatient and having this one touch thing sounds good to me, rather than boiling, waiting for correct temp, waiting for infusion for a few mins, all clock watching, don't really want to spend 10 mins of every hour in the kitchen etc, thinking this gadget might solve that.

£200?

No. Buy a cheap kettle and a smallish teapot. Just make cups when you want.

As for tea, I'd recommend http://waterlootea.com/

Not exactly cheap, but they do give brew times/temperatures/ratios on the packets which is pretty unique for tea in my experience. Also useful if you're just getting into tea.

My recommendation - Meghalaya Autumn Flush, Ceylon Kataboola, Waterloo Blend. But especially the Maghalaya - best tea I've ever had.

At first I thought the price was a bit of a **** take but on reflection it's similar to the amounts people spend on coffee machines (in fact a lot less than most).

Maybe we could all just get a cheap kettle and drop the PID kits huh? *cough*
