Sainsburys

I doubt that - if it says on the voucher or in the T&C's anywhere that the code is not transferable then they won't have to honour it legally. Some will get the freebies, some won't - it's pot luck i guess!

Lot of bad publicity though if they don't honour them seeing as it was their mistake which led to it being possible.

I'm sure that this happened a year or two ago as well - a few friends and I paid about £5-10 each for about £200 worth of booze!

Looks like nearly the same type of error, allowing multiple vouchers to be used (though this one allowed you to use the same voucher over and over again!) on the same purchase. They also recently insourced their IT back from Accenture earlier this year, so they only have themselves to blame for any loses they incur over this!

I asked about the t&c's on the vouchers but they refused to send me a copy of them!

It's Sainsburys fault for allowing their system to be exploited, they send out codes that could be used accumulatively and by anyone, it's their fault. And what the point of them being there if they don't get used? I got ~£120 worth of shopping for £50 and I don't feel bad for 'spoiling it for everyone', sounds like sour grapes if you ask me.
"But officier... it was his fault for standing there whilst i stole his wallet and bludgeoned him to death. Honest, guv..."

You're in the wrong. You knew you were in the wrong when you placed the orders. You have no one to blame but yourself.

These vouchers were produced by Sainsbury's, used on the Sainsbury's website, verified and accepted by Sainsbury's and an email confirmation was sent confirming the discount and the and the value of the vouchers.

Now apparently they knew about this on Friday and yet still the codes were able to be used.

Errr, i don't think your example is really even slightly similar. How random. At the end of the day, people have placed genuine orders using vouchers which their website verified as genuine. A confirmation email was then sent confirming the order. It's their **** up, they should have noticed the problem straight away and dealt with it accordingly. Other retailers who have been in the same position in the past have admitted their mistakes and in some cases, honoured the orders.

Well i have confirmation emails, confirming the price im to pay.

If they dont honour the delivery then fair enough, but am i hell gonna accept paying any more.

Ill just say i didnt realise it was a problem :)

Sainsburys introduced the e-vouchers to replace the old paper vouchers that you had to hand to the driver who would then take them away and they would then credit you debit/credit card back with the voucher amount.

I assume they have not thoroughly thought through the way this voucher scheme works. But I would also think that these e-vouchers would come with non-transferable t&c's, so even if they used the same code for multiple discounts people would still be breaching the t&c's of the original e-voucher that was sent out, something along the lines of 'This voucher is for use only by the original recipient of this email from Sainsburystoyou.com it is not transferable and cannot be used in conjunction with any other offer/e-voucher, if you have not received this offer/e-voucher directly from Sainsburystoyou.com then you are not eligible to use this code'. So, unless you can prove that you received an original email from Sainsburys with the voucher codes they are quite within their rights to rescind the offer at a time of their choosing.

The only way to be sure is to actually see a copy of the t&c's that went out originally with these e-vouchers.

I wonder where we stand if they just don't turn up with the goods...

A friend of mine had that happen to him today. Order was placed yesterday for 9am delivery this morning. He had no phone call and the delivery never showed.

Being "e-vouchers" it wouldn't be hard to make them one time use only now would it, that would have stopped all of this.

Well if he had a confirmation email I can't see how they just can't turn up!

The contract is void if the vouchers aren't legit though, regardless of whether the system accepts them or not.

An example (but not really on the same level) is if someone steals a credit card, uses it on a website, the website verifies it and processes the order. Is it legal because the site accepted it? No.

Using these vouchers obviously isn't illegal, but I'll bet it's against their T&Cs to use vouchers that you aren't supposed to, thus rendering the contract completely worthless, unless they specifically choose to honour it regardless.

I understand what you are saying but if it is true that they knew about this last week then it isn't right surely that the vouchers still worked.

Saying that the have honoured some orders, can they get away with hounouring some but not others?
