Saints Row vs San Andreas

I loved SR it was a game that was not trying to be too clever and long, I never got round to doing SA because of its huge map and pointless tasks.

Definitely GTA:SA, though there were aspects of Saints Row that were done better than SA did them (as others have mentioned, customisation etc - could spend hours just 'pimp'in' up cars). Far long to wait until GTAIV is out :(

/orders Saints Row in the meantime

I can't understand why anyone would think Saints Row is better, they're in different leagues. The writing and humor is no where near as good as SA.

I remember I listed to an interview with the developer for Saints Row and they didn't even mention GTA as being any inspiration, which was sort of weird.

Bring on GTA4 :)

Maybe because Saints Row isn't meant to be funny? I don't notice people saying 'oh well Halo 3 is good, but it isn't as funny as Serious Sam'

Well then that is why it will never be as good, it's a videogame. I don't want some serious story filled with cutscenes about some guys in the hood I don't care about. It's nice to have humor in games, there's hardly any of them out there that do it right. GTA SA isn't a great example for it but it's a lot better than most.

There is no contest in this, the OP's friend is silly :D

Saints Row by a long way. Better story, better environment, better missions, better graphics.
But I hated San Andreas, it was just so annoying and violent and 'rap' oriented for the sake of being so.

For me, Vice City is the best of them all.

That's exactly what I was going to say, even down to VC being the best of the lot.

Saints Row tries to be funny in places and fails. All the shops and food places have comedy names but they're a poor imitation of GTA.

Even though Saints Row betters San Andreas in almost every aspect, San Andreas only just wins with a much wider choice of vehicles and craft.

Apparently Samuel L. Jackson isn't enough, and half the Sopranos cast (well at least in the third one, I think).

Saints Row features some of the very best vocal talent seen on TV today.

Michael Clarke Duncan

Keith David

David Carradine

Tia Carrere

Freddy Rodríguez

Daniel Dae Kim

Michael Rapaport

Joaquim de Almeida

Clancy Brown

Mila Kunis

Terrence 'T.C.' Carson

That's a hell of a lot of vocal talent, more so than the actual talent used in San Andreas which features very few recognizable actors with Faizon Love, Chris Penn (R.I.P.) and Samuel L. Jackson as the most well known but it counters it with one of, if not the worst actor ever in Ice-T. It has a few rappers and an unknown Young Maylay as C.J. so yes, the acting talent and quality is much better in Saints Row than in San Andreas.

Rappers may be authentic sounding but they are not great vocal actors and this was painfully obvious when watching. As I said, Saints Row has some of the best actors on TV such as Keith David, Daniel Dae Kim, Mila Kunis and Michael Clark Duncan. It also has Terrence Carson who is a certifiable bad ass as the voice of Kratos in God of War.

For reference, here is San Andreas:

Young Maylay

Faizon Love

Yolanda Whittaker

Clifton Powell

MC Eight

Jas Anderson

The Game

Big Boy

Eugene Jeter Jr.

Ice-T

Clifton Collins Jr.

Samuel L. Jackson

Chris Penn

Armando Riesco

Cynthia Farrell

Er, I'm confused now.

So are we now going back to sillymode and saying that graphics and A-List actors make a better game?

~J~ is confused?

I don't think Nokkon said that, he was just saying Saints Row has better voice acting. I preferred the voice acting on San Andreas although that might be because the material was better.
