Sam Allardyce - Sacked as England manager amid corruption investigation

Wow. He has to walk after this? Quite shocking (though not really I suppose :p).

This ought to be interesting too:

The Telegraph began investigating corruption in English football last year after receiving information that specific managers, officials and agents were taking or receiving cash payments to secure player transfers. Over the coming days the Telegraph will detail how:

  • The assistant manager of a high-profile football club accepted a £5,000 cash “bung”
  • Ten managers were named by players’ agents as taking bribes to fix player transfers
  • Two well-known managers discussed becoming ambassadors for the same fictitious firm as Sam Allardyce
  • Another high-profile manager admitted his players broke FA rules by betting on their own games but he failed to report it
  • A senior figure at a Premier League club helped undercover reporters to formulate a plan to bribe managers

No way he can possibly carry on as England manager after that.

Utter corruption in football.

It really doesn't seem that bad.

Reading the comments here before the actual story, I was expecting something serious. This ain't that. It's a little embarrassing, with some of the stuff about his predecessor, and Wembley.

He offered information for money of how to cheat FA rules regarding third parties owning players, seems quite serious to me.

Allardyce is obviously a clown, however I doubt he will be binned off.

His comment about rebuilding Wembley is laughable, he obviously hadn't been recently it was a complete toilet.

It doesn't seem like he did that to me. It's written to give that impression, granted, but look a bit more critically

I watched the video. It seemed to that Allardyce offered information on how to circumvent FA rules to dodgy businessmen then asked for money to go do a 'talk' to their investors, already knowing that they want/wiling to break rules. This is the England manager, I think it's as serious as people are making out.

These 3 issues together are what makes it a problem:

- The agreement in principle of a £400k role based on his position as England manager

- Unpleasant (if not untrue) comments about Hodgson, Neville, Wembley and the FA, etc.

- Comments/advice on how to avoid 3rd party ownership rules, FIFA/FA rules

The press have got his chances down as 50/50. To me, the fact this agreement was struck with a slightly dodgy consortium purely to line his own pockets will make his position untenable. It's pathetic really.

I think he'll be ok. He said and reiterated that he'd have to OK any deal with the 'powers that be', the 3rd party stuff was somewhat conversational, and the 'woy' stuff was embarrassing but not terminal.
