Hi,

I've just taken delivery of a Samsung 206BW, which has a brightly coloured pixel (shines red) very near to the center of the screen. The positioning of faulty pixel is very annoying. Against lighter backrounds, the faulty pixel seems to 'fade' a little, but is still visible. Against darker backrounds, the faulty pixel stands out very clearly and obviously, and causes significant disturbance to my enjoyment of images.

I contacted Samsung, who basically said that they did not want to know. They do not consider the position of a faulty pixel to be an issue (when I'd have thought it surely is), and they do not consider a single faulty pixel sufficient for a replacement.

I'd be very grateful for any help and advice in regard to how to fix the faulty pixel; might try to reactivate it?

Thanks for all help.

Well further looking at this pixel and doing some tests:

If I turn the screen white, the pixel seems to do that too.

If I turn the screen yellow, the pixel seems to do that too.

Problems arise when the screen goes green, blue and black: Here the pixel remains red and stick out like a sore thumb.

So I'm guessing the pixel is stuck, and not dead.

Can pixels be 'unstuck'?

Send the monitor back under DSR thats the only option you got, tell the retailer that you have changes your mind for whatever reason but you will have to pay for the postage to send it back atleast that way you don't have to stuck with stuck pixel your whole life:D.

Alternatively , you could disconnect it from the mains and your PC

Then inject 240Volts mains voltage ( be careful ) into the dvi port of the LCD ( that should kill it ) , then
return it for a new unit ( assuming its under 28 days old )

That is the stupidest thing I have ever heard.

I would advise that you talk to the shop you bought it from to see if they will help you out. If not, then return the monitor under DSR. I have a dead pixel on a brand new monitor I received on Friday, and it's being swapped out for a new one tomorrow because I asked Dell very nicely :)

It's not only stupid, I would wager illegal as well; the word fraud pops to mind.

They'll also be able to see that a power overload happened and blame it on either the wiring in your house, or your computer.

DSR is your best bet, some retailers will try to charge a "restocking fee" but IIRC this is unlawful and you should point them to the relevant parts of the legislation (BBC website probably has a section on it).

I just re-read your original post

I am assuming that you did not contact the shop in question that you bought it from.

You could contact them and return it under the sales of good act 1979 for a brand new unit or full refund ( including delivery and return postage charges)

It doesnt matter about any tolerance regarding dead pixels , if it got 1 dead
then its faulty and can be returned.

I also have a similiar problem with my Samsung monitor, although the pixel is green - But also very central in my screen.

I took deliver of the monitor a good couple of months ago now, along with an entire new rig. Because I had not had a computer for a good couple of months, and was simply itching to get back online and so on, I just made do with the dead pixel.

I was hoping it would fade over time, and it hasn't.

Do you know if I can now return this monitor, or have I missed the boat?

Samsung's warranty is excellent. I just got a next day total unit replacement because my stand verticle tilt had failed.

It's amazing just what they will replace the entire unit for. I suggest you examine your unit very very thoroughly in case there is something else that is wrong with it....
