I can't seem to find a conclusive answer on this, but would you go for the intel 520 180gb or the samsung 830 256gb drive? Performance seems similar, however the intel has the better warranty
Intel, everyone seems down on sandforce but they delayed a year to validate their drivers and think if there were problems, Intel would have the resources, knowhow to solve it or see their customers right. The 5 year guarantee is nice peace of mind and the cashback on those models brings them down to about £1 per GB like many others.
Can either of you suggest a decent pciex sata 6 controller? I have marvel on my board and its meant to be absolute pants - I'd rather connect it to sata 2 than that port.
Wow excellent price. Sorry no experience of sata 3 controller cards. I take it your bypassing Ivy Bridge then, as a new mobo would obviously sought that.
I've still got P55a at the minute (Gigabyte UD7). I was intending on buying the ssd and then upgrading when the new IB stuff comes out About to pull the trigger on the ssd order too, just hope the retailer is reliable still as I haven't used them in years!
Morning, am going for one later too. I'll just keep it to one side when it arrives as not long until the IB purchasing begins. Shame the cashback offer ends when it does or I would have grouped things together into less orders and delivery charges.
Do you not qualify for free postage at ocuk yet? The place I'm getting mine from has free postage over x value and £10 voucher code... have to see how long they take to deliver.
Nah unfortunately not but am ok with the alternative as they have the psu I want too but i've not pulled the trigger yet as I can't decide on case and that is a little difficult until mobo's are released to see the pricing / reviews.
Did you get your ssd yet? I still haven't bitten the bullet! Price difference and capacity difference has got me undecided!
Intel works out to be £157.99 for 180gb
Samsung works out to be £216.55 for 256gb
Both the prices obviously being with cashback. I like Intels reliability track record, but the samsung appears to be better value for money to me. (Even if it is only a few pence per gb)!
Not yet, I'm stuck in a quondary over cases, matx vs atx and one of them I could add to the order along with psu which would push me up to the £25 coupon code. Still going for Intel though.
Finally pulled the trigger, Intel and my PSU winging it's way here, see how long it takes..
Coupon still worked even though it was no longer shown on the page
Hi Mike,
Got nice surprise of my new tech arriving earlier , wasn't expecting it until Tues because of the weekend and bank holiday.
Building a little mountain of stuff for the new build.
Was quite a contrast when opening the outer box, one massive box for the PSU and a tiny box for the SSD, didn't realise just how tiny they were.
Also got a voucher off next order £10
I missed out on the spring10 promotion so haven't ordered anything yet. Just put a vertex 2 60gb drive in my laptop and apart from boot up time it hasn't impressed me
Sure IE etc open a bit faster but I'm not sure I can justify £200 for that - gutted tbh as I really wanted one!
Oh shame, I must have been lucky to sneak my order in then but either way still a good price even with just the 2% and Intel cashback (which ends tomorrow). If yours is the Vortex 2E then that is about half the speed of the 520's.
