** Samsung 830 seres SSD, CRAZY PRICE ** READ POST 342

I get the impression this is one of those "moments" where there are dramatic price drops - it may be now that prices level around here for a while but for this type of price drop to reoccur in % terms you are looking at 256GB for around 100 quid...

I dont think that will happen for some time yes... £150 for an SSD that is really tier 1 is a bargain....

All the other reductions so far have not been on what I would see as tier 1 SSD's.

im not so sure as nand prices seem to be dropping like a rock and may continue to for awhile yet.

i still ordered a drive and wont regret it if prices continue to fall

Wow this beats the m4 off my wishlist now, because it is better performance and now cheaper :D

Are the 120gb models gonna get a price drop? The 256gb model is a bit too expensive for me (need to upgrade my 60gb vertex drive)

Wow very cheap!!

As far as I am aware, the difference between the Desktop Series and the Notebook/Apple Series is just the actual installation kits.

If I was buying the Samsung 830 256GB now, I would just purchase the Notebook/Apple Series one on offer >> http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HD-150-SA - £153.95 inc VAT

Then all you need to do is buy either of the following:

Akasa SSD & HDD adapter - AK-HDA-01 (OcUK need to stock these) - Cost about £6, I bought one to install in one of my 5.25" Corsair 650D drive bays'
(Mounting adapter allows for installing single 2.5" or 3.5" disk drive into a 5.25" PC drive bay.)

Akasa SSD Mounting Kit - AK-MX010 - £6.98 inc VAT
(Mounting Kit allows two notebook drives to fit into a standard 3.5” drive bay of the PC case.)

is the get the VAT back still going? and is this still qualified for that promo ?
Take a look here >> http://www.samsung.com/uk/vatback/

Purchases of the qualifying Samsung printers, displays and SSD models must be made during the promotional period of 28th March to 7th May 2012.

Purchases of the qualifying Samsung notebooks must be made during the promotional period of 28th March to 6th June 2012.

So the answer is No, but I had a 10% voucher and claimed VAT back and price came to £201.00, you would be getting one for £153.95 inc VAT then you would need to buy a mounting kit for around £6 to £7, still bloody cheap!

guess no one bothered to book them in then or you were only talking about the 64gb ones

Lots were booked in and all have gone out or are picked for packing, very popular it would seem with a very large back log accumulating. Ill have to keep an eye, dont want orders to outweigh supply now lol!

guess you sold out in about an hour then and before 10:47 then seeing as my orders still in the warehouse queue :@

Damn good price, no wonder they sold so quickly!

Absolutely cracking price for such a decent drive - entry level pricing for one of the best drives you can buy :)

That is a crazy bloody price!! I wasn't looking to buy a new rig until next easter probably in 2013.. Do you reckon prices will be around this by then anyway if not lower!? I've been reading news articles saying the big SSD firms are looking to start big price wars to get the small companies out of the SSD industry..

So what do you say? Now I buy this SSD or wait until 2013 easter for a full new rig!?

I currently have a 1st gen Intel i5-750, 8GB RAM, ATI 6950 2GB, 1TB HD and a 1st gen OCZ Vertex 2E 60GB SSD..

Similar query here: wanting to buy an SSD for September - can we expect these sort of prices on these sort of SSD's again by then, or is this really an exceptional case? (I've seen that said before, only for prices to settle not far off)...

How does the 256gb compare to the agility 3 256gb? The stated performance figures are similar and same warranty length.

Samsung = toggle nand (faster)
Samsung = better controller and garbage collection
Samsung = as a result of above likely to last longer
Samsung = 7mm so can fit a greater number of scenarios
Samsung = (probably) more reliable as not sandforce

Hows that?
