Then there's either something wrong with it, your system or your perception.

The difference in latency (ie general speed) is tremendously noticeable...

It is the only hard drive in the system.

Are the benchmarks ok ?

I actually think it takes longer on the windows is loading graphic than it did before.

Benchmarks look fine.

If boot is taking longer - then there's something not quite right.

Any spinning platter hard drive to ssd swap will get a noticeable improvement in boot time.

I don't even see the windows loading graphic...

You only really see the difference when you go back to an old drive and try to reboot your computer. Then you know how fast SSDs are.

If your computer is used just as a tool to send emails, play a few games and surf the net then I might agree.

But I don't because most of us here are power users who do more than the above, a whole lot more.

For my workflow it's a tremendous difference especially when working in Lightroom where my RAW images are cached to the SSD. I never turn my PC off so boot time wasn't a buying factor of these SSDs (even though my system boots in about 27 seconds to all startup applications ready and waiting which includes POST).

Ive run this benchmark, is it OK? , If so, I'm not sure why windows doesn't load any quicker.

The windows loading time is from when u first see the windows logo, that bit should be MUCH faster, but it will not do anything to speed up the POST times when u boot up.

Now that I could understand. I have been wanting to use an SSD for video projects at work but at 200-400GB a project might need several. At least the cost of 512GB are coming down.

Updated to the latest Intel driver linked earlier in this thread and though its not for my controller and windows is a lot speedier to boot. When the win7 logo animation is complete my desktop appears now instead of a 15 second wait.

Here's my before and after scores with the driver. Speed has gone down a little.

While not extreme, that's a significant drop in performance (although you say boot time is 15s quicker ).

Could be partially due to the disk usage going from 12% to 27% - or from a driver that's optimised for real-world use and not just benchmarks. I'm still "unsure" (read : "confused") about which AHCI driver to use (msahci or IRST/iaStor). Probably just leave it as-is until I get problems, then see if switching drivers helps.
