Samsung 980 Pro

This can't be far off and certainly will be cheaper worth just waiting ?

Better come out within the next 3 weeks or I'll be getting the 980 pro, can't wait any longer than that

"competition"
Doesn't it only have the 980 beat on endurance? It's like 3 times the endurance but nowhere near the performance

Samsung has the fastest pcie4 nvme SSD right now, but the endurance is 3 times lower. The 980 pro is rated for 600TB while the alternatives are generally around 1600-1800TB.

It doesn't matter for the normal desktop consumer though - I've currently got a 11 months old SSD here and just checked the stats on it, total read and write is just 9TB and that's with me installing new games on a weekly basis. 600TB is enough to last me for several decades

I oh so nearly hit the button on a Sabrent last night, but those 1-star reviews about drives permafailing after a few weeks/months, or selective mobo compatibility / failing to enumerate whatsoever got me concerned. Web reckons Sabrents are just rebadged MyDigitalSSD BPX Pro which have good enough performance but the same reliability issues.

Given the percentage of 1 and 2 star reviews I've read, and adjusting for the proportion of people who have problems but don't bother to submit feedback, I think I'd currently only trust the Sabrents for any data at the moment in a RAID pair. I'd currently trust a 970 far more given their history of owning the vertical (controllers, NAND, manufacturing) and prior experience - I have an 840 Evo still trucking in my old PC since July 2014, no degradation or SMART issues (I monitor it with Magician). I just bought a 970 Evo Plus to migrate off my old Intel 750 so I'll let you know how that goes. ;)
