Samsung D900

I completly agree with the whole joystick issue, the K800 may be a better phone, but I have no doubt that there are still going to be issues with it. I am a big fan of the SE phones, I had the k700i and the k750, both of the joysticks started playing up after about 6 months.. and im yet to find many people who havent had the same problem!

Im definatly going to get the samsung d900
It seems pretty good too!!

Lou ;)

Very nice looking phone but what is the main difference between this and the E900 besides screen size??

2MP with no autofocus on the E900, 3MP with autofocus on the D900. Also, some people might prefer the actual buttons on the D900 (at least I do) vs. the touch buttons on the E900. And I think the D900 is marginally slimmer.

It's about 1/3 slimmer than the E900

All very well and good, BUT I think samsung have got it right, who really uses 3g at this point in time? Very very few people bar some mobile internet folks. No one uses video calling really, if they do its for a few calls for the novelty, then its back to using the phone as a phone. The cams on them are both 3mp, the sony may have a suprior one, ill have to see the reviews, but its not going to be a massive jump what so ever, played with the d900 in the shop yesterday and its cam to me look the same as the k800 at the same zoom level of the same shot (basically it may have better specs, but to the end user they looked same, like comparing a D50 to a 350D, one may be technically better but for snap shots they look the same, lets face it your not gonna use your phone to take serious photography) And to me the k800 is aweful, the menu is the same as the samsung a icon display you move around, apart from the k800 is hugely let down by that god aweful mini joystick, had a couple SE after a year they all broke. i.e. that darn joystick stopped working. Another thing I noticed while using both phones at the same time is that the software on the d900 was much quicker, the SE had noticable 'load' times, i.e. took a couple seconds get into menu area for txts, games etc......same as the old 610 i used have.......sort it SE !. And finally as already commented on its size, for what it packs.....humm ok, but my old phone is still smaller than it, way to big, d900 perfect size for new phone. A personal opinion/review here but for me SE need to sort all the joystick/load time/useful features/phone size issues out.

3g, a far faster wap / mobile web experience (btw the mobile viewer is top notch too..)
screen , clearer due to olcd technology.
camera, a lot better, 'who is going to use it as a normal camera' .... i did this on hols for 2 weeks, it took shots that were easyily comparable to my pentax s5i camera which i am now going to sell... (due in part to the brilliant flash)
i too had a smaller phone in the k750i, and before that the d500 .. but the slight sixe increase is far outwaid by the truely useable camera.

i have never had ayproblems with lag , or the joystick ... but i conceed that the joystick went wrong for a minority of people in the k700i..

the joystick issue is said to be fixed now, due to a new rubber coating to stop the dust affecting the joystick's motion. fingers crossed:)

good point that the camera's quality makes up for its size

but i think i'd still like to have the option of a small phone for all other times though

The real camera flash, thats attractive, but does it eat up the batt like crazy?

it seems to have the same real life battery life as my old k750i .. so no .. not really...

i would have prefered a smaller phone .. but tbh it isn't that noticably bigger than the k750i.

Well yes 3g is a faster net option as stated already, BUT who really uses there mobile to go on the web other than chat/check films/location stuff, its like using broadband to check emails, when for emails only 56k is more than enough. Screen is much clearer on the D900 than 800i, iv used both side by side, the k800i looked somewhat duller+fuzzier, even with me adjusting it to turn it up. The camera yes is very nice indeed, but again cannot tell difference. Seems there both very good ;) , but if your desicion is purely on the camera+using a mobile as most people do, then the D900, if you absolutly must have 3g and video calling then the ericcson. As I dont use video calls or mobile internet for much more than cinema times/weather the D900 is overall much suprior, cam included (I take photos all time !:))
