Samsung F8000 + PS3 = Motion Blur?

If I'd posted in this thread a year ago I'd have said to try running a 60fps game to see if that helps, both TLOU on PS3 and GTA V run at a chronically low frame rate and those games will often have a 'blur' effect to make the transition between frames appear smoother. If you're coming from PC it's probably not something you've seen before.

That's pixel response and there's nothing you can do about it. It's visible typically above 16ms response, but often manufacturers quote the best case response (grey to grey) time but black-to-black is considerably worse. That's why you see it on the blacks so much.

Sorry guys but I'm going to resurrect this post:

I have continued my quest to find out if it's possible to stop this god aweful black blurring on this screen, and most searches I do on Google take me back to my own thread!

Sorry to high jack an old thread, but is this the sort of thing you were experiencing?:

I have the same tv and its been bugging me too; it does it on my ps3, ps4, and pc, regardless of any setting.

Did you ever manage to resolve this? Is it just an issue with this tv, or do you reckon we have faulty models or something?

Yes, this is -exactly- what I'm talking about, AND IT DRIVES ME INSANE!!

Does anyone know if it's possible to enable Black Frame Insertion on this TV whilst gaming with a decent (small) input lag? - or even just with any input lag..

I find the black blurring to be so distracting that I can't properly enjoy gaming on this TV and it even gives me headaches and it's putting me off playing my consoles.

- Here's another question for you -

It seems that 2015 will be the year of the quantum dot TV; what do you reckon will be the best quantum dot gaming TV that employs BFI to remove motion blur and give low input lag for gaming?

I use Clear mode on my ES8000.

Try minecraft and when running you'll likely notice the man in the top left blurring all over the place. Turn clear motion plus off and it'll go away.

Clear doesn't work for gaming.

Unsure the best way to go for this... renaming to pc mode greys out any adjustment, so calibration is impossible. Gaming mode reduces visual quality supposedly. Disabling motion plus must be worse for tv/films. No perfect solution it seems.

Haha, I have a Samsung 55h7500 (a newer 4k model) and have this exact same problem, like everyone else says it drives me mad. After extensive fiddling, here's what I've learnt:

1) As it happens with blacks, keeping brightnees at 50, certainly no lower than 45, helps a lot.

2) Renaming input to PC will NOT help the blur. If anything it makes it worse since the these 100hz plus panels seem to struggle showing 60fps super smoothly and the motion plus setting you lose in pc mode really does help smooth the motion even at 60fps. My tv is different to yours but will share very similar picture processing, but I find the PC mode on mine unusable.

3) I have a setting on custom motion plus called LED clear motion. It might not be available on your tv but if it is, try it and see what you think. It WILL fix the motion blur, at least the smearing but sometimes you get a ghosted double image instead. But the motion on this setting looks perfect, like playing 60fps on a 60hz tv, no arftifacts. However it introduces a new problem.... the tv flickers like a 60hz crt monitor. It looks perfect for darker games and consoles use but far too flickery and unusable for desktop use.

4) As others have said this is down to panel response time, if nothing above helps then you'll need a new tv to get rid of it. The wise folks at avforums have suggested that it can vary from panel to panel like other issues such as dse, but I'm unconvinced about this. It will vary from between panel models though, and bare in mind that Samsung do use different panels even for the same model tv, especially at different sizes but sometimes even at the same size. So it's a bit of a lottery with Samsung TV's but just getting a new one may help.

Hope this helps!!

I have a Samsung 32" TV upstairs in the bedroom (will have to check what model) that used to do something similar (although mostly we watch tv on it - seemed to be with dark scenes), seem to think it was something to do with automatic backlight adjustment or even noise reduction. (will check when I get home, but seem to remember turning them off completely didn't work, they had to be set to minimum or low iirc)

*EDIT: I have a UE32EH5000

checking the manual "Motion Lighting" and "Digital Noise Filter" were the settings I was thinking of - still at work so can't check what I have them set to

I think this could also be related to insufficient bit depth in the darker part of the image. You see this manifest as solarisation that makes graduations appear steppy.

I'd thought I would chip in, as this issue sounds very similar to what I had with my Samsung ES7000 which has very identical performance and picture settings.

Basically, from what I've read about this problem, it appears to be Samsung's implementation of simple noise reduction. Apparently this is an implementation that is separate from the options which you see in the TV settings menu, and cannot be accessed or controlled or turned off. It is a very subtle implementation in terms of the way noise is scrubbed from the picture, much more so than the option they provide in the TV settings menu, but quite horriblly noticeable in dark shadow or black areas where there is either extensive camera panning or motion onscreen. For me personally it appears less noticeably in films compared to gaming, which is why I probably only became aware of it when I played on my ps3 and ps4.

The only way that I know of to get round Samsung's implementation of automatic DNR is to make sure you have game mode enabled at all times. I actually found the Xbox was very good at enabling game mode by default but the ps3 and ps4 had to have it enabled manually.

Also, as already mentioned, in terms of weak blacks/contrast on ps3 through RGB values, this is again where they implement things differently from the Xbox and sometimes you have to fiddle and find what suits you.

Anyway, that's my experience of a similar issue. Not sure if this was helpful or not.
