Has anyone found out yet, how Samsung achieves 240Hz native resolution 10-bit color, without any form of DSC? Because it exceeds what the current 1.4 DP bandwidth can handle (Samsung already confirmed that the monitor is running dual 1.4 DP, and HDMI 2.0).

Are they using some sort of dual DP 1.4 setup to achieve the bandwidth requirements? Or do you have to turn down the colors (Chroma subsample)?

that would be my guess, 240 achievable but I reckon you'll lose Freesync (like the 4k 144hz Acer)

Yeah mine too. 5120 x 1440 @ 120Hz can be done with a single DP at 8-bit as with the CRG9 so I expect dusk DP would be required on the new G9 model

DP 1.4 at 4:2:0 should do 240 Hz. Probably 120-144 Hz in full RGB. This feels like just an iteration on the CRG9 to me. The dual DP is for PbP mode really.

I just got it confirmed, the Samsung Odyssey G9 will support DSC! No more speculation on how the monitor achieves 240hz without any drawbacks!

Just remember though, the fastest VA panel pixels max out around 160 Hz before you actually start to get worse motion clarity from the pixels not being able to keep up.

They may get close to it on the highest overdrive setting but then you've got overshoot to contend with.

When IPS marketing quotes 1ms, at least you can expect average to be 4-5ms across the range with reasonable overdrive.
With VA the bets are off. Most transitions could be as low as 2ms, and then dark transitions over 30.

240 hz needs response times to be 4ms and below, else its a blurry mess.

Agreed, tbh the 49CRG90 is overall excellent from when I tried it so they may have pulled it off!
