Samsung Galaxy S... highest spec Android phone released... also with QWERTY!

Can anyone suggest some good headphones with Volume control for the phone as I find the ones that come with the phone are awful, they dig in my ears too much and no volume control or track control.

Now running Froyo and lag fix on my SGS and its so nice:cool:....oh and ten sat gps fixes while lying on my sofa in the living room:)

I ran OCLF last night, currently on 2.1 Eclair BVJM5 and the phone is rooted.

To get the modaco rom it says I should use JG5 first, if I use

Tayutama_Edition_v1.0.0_JPM_Full_Orig

Can I just plonk it straight on my mem card now and update.zip it via recovery?

Was just looking over at XDA and theres finally some really nice roms out, I'm going to try out Darky's Raw Steel Edition tomorrow, just wanted to share with you guys :D.

links for the best and most stable and how do you install these , just flash there rom over the top of the original 2.2 ? or is it a full rom you flash?

Just had my phone replaced with a new one and this time the GPS works but I am beginning to think if I should have even bothered because the GPS is real bad. Updates too slow and takes ages to get a lock.

2.2 fixed most my issues. It wont be long now unless you fancy flashing yourself?

yeah I was going to flash it myself but I don't really want to risk it, I don't mind waiting for Froyo even if it does take ages.

I was a little worried about putting froyo on my phone but it was really easy so i decided to root and lag fix it to...it was simple! and although i know that benchmarks are not the whole story my galaxy has gone from 800 ish to this on quadrant and the phone is now how it should have been from the factory.

How safe is it to root the phone, and is it easy to get back to 'stock' if anything happens?

When rooting the phone, what roms give you 2.2? or is this just a download i can do after rooting it?.

I used Ryanza lag fix and it worked like a charm and my 2.2 was done with the kies reg hack....unrooting it is just a click away.

Flashing is very safe as long as you have the three button combo active and working on the phone, some don't. Root is very simple, either flash over a modified kernel of the same firmware you're using. Or flash to an old kernel that accepts updates, flash the root and put the original kernel back on. Getting back to stock, well that depends on what stock you have. If it's a specific vendor firmware, then you'll have to try and find that specific build. Which can be problematic. If its a generic unbranded firmware, then is as simple as flashing it back over.

Some ROM's have roots already applied. Or more commonly you apply the root to an existing install. Either a root specific to that firmware (kernel based) or a general root like SuperOneClick

Things have moved on a bit since the OCLF, it's really more suited to 2.1 I find. The OCLF ext2 loop cheats with the quadrant scores as well :)

Take a look at the newer ext4 or JFS file systems. In actual use they feel much better on 2.2, as you say quadrant scores aren't the whole story. Voodoo is particularly impressive, the robot voice at install is pure win to my simple mind.

Sorry i'm a bit cautious when it comes to things like this, is there a very simple outline of the steps I need to take to get 2.2 on my phone?

Current phone versions are....
PDA : JM2
PHONE : JM1
CSC : JM1

Phone is currently rooted using OCLF.

Tried making sense of Android forums but it's pretty confusing, do I have to flash 2 diff firmwares before getting to the 2.2 one?

Would really appreciate any help!
