Samsung Galaxy S... highest spec Android phone released... also with QWERTY!

Im on JPM and the first time i started copilot up it took about 3 minutes to get a lock with a load of data being passed for some reason.
Ever since though it takes about 15-20 seconds :)
Copilot runs great now, used to sometimes stagger but smooth and better than expected it to be after having the stock rom which was pants.

Also just tried to backup darkys steel ROM with Rom manager and it soft bricked it (stuck on samsung screen) any thoughts on why ?

I assume you can't use ROM manager with this ROM:confused:

Is there any way to uninstall the skype that came on my '3' galaxy s? Doesn't seem to be in manage applications. It keeps crashing when I get a txt and making me force close it, I don't use it so I'd rather just remove it

It does that on my three galaxy s too.I'll see if out can be removed.there's an uninstaller app on the market that may remove it.

EDIT: just looked for you, it's hidden. On the manage apps page press menu then filter, then tell it to show all. You should see it appear on the list after that. I didn't try removing it yet though.

Cheers, found it but there's no uninstall option.

Trying an uninstall tool now and that doesn't find it

Is it noticibly quicker in use, though?

I had a weird error where the Email (exchange email) app kept crashing on boot. I cleared the data and cache and stuff but it didn't work so I flashed on JPM.

The battery life is insane now with the data off (I've since figured that there's no point having it on all the time if I'm not using it).

Still noticing the display is using up the most battery life, though, even though I have brightness down to 10...

EDIT: As for the GPS, mine was rubbish with the stock ROM. Every time I've flashed to another ROM it's been significantly better.

My phone has just been replaced by CPW under warranty & the handset I now have is running JM1 and will not enter the 3 button recovery mode nor will it connect to Kies no matter what I do

I'm really worried about rooting and applying lagfixes without being about to enter recovery mode manually.

I've read in several places that you should not modify the OS in anyway until the 3 button mode is active, any easier way than the ADB method?

Well there is a fix (sort of) > 3-button combo fix for any E-Fused Firmware

The OCLF is pretty safe tbh. But anything that involves flashing a modified kernel or system files and you're right to be worried, without an active download mode you could easily brick it.

Cheers that buddy, guess what my handset aint 'e-fused'...

Guess I'll be living with all stock, no root & no lagfix for the immediate future as I really do not want to risk bricking the phone.

The default software on my galaxy s voda 2.1 eclair branded phone was horrid. Darkys Raw steel is like a breath of fresh air. :D Easy to do aswell !

This darkys rom do you still have to do the days of partition sd card for the lag fix or is it as simple as it is making out and does it all for you, the phone I am getting of my brother was a launch phone sim free I did put a rom on it for him months ago using Odin route.

I'd be asking for another one, personally I'd consider that faulty tbh.

Based on Voodoo, so very quick install with a cool robot voice the first time you reboot the new rom.

You can class that as a fault. You have a right to have a recovery mode as even Samsung approved firmwares could need it

Just do a quick root and grab a copy of the /efs folder before you do anything, that along with an active download mode will get it all working again if there's ever a flash problem.
