It's bloody good. I can't believe the amount of people who are selling theirs. Low res? Yes. But so what, it's only £80. The experience is truly amazing though. You have to try it to know what it's really like.

It's a bit of a 5 minute wonder unless you are prepared to pay extra for all the extra apps. The free ones are mostly just a few minutes worth.

Got mine free, not sure I would actually pay £80 for it, and definitely not worth getting if you are also getting any of the other headsets

Oh, and you need an android compatible game pad for most things

There's enough free content to have some fun and the paid stuff isn't exactly expensive. It's wireless and mobile so you can take it anywhere. It costs next to nothing to buy even if you're waiting on the other headsets, and it's a great experience. What's not to like, unless we've already gotten blase about VR?

I've not been particularly impressed, not bad for a free gift but the resolution is hard to get crisp and the chromatic aberration is terrible. Nice concept though

I just bought this Ipega 9037, should be here wednesday. :)
Reading Reddit, it apparently works very well with the GVR.

Btw guys, the OTOY 360 images are really stunning high quality renders, with some incredible contest winners from the metaverse competition. There's one which is a kind of Myst/Salvadore Dali type image, with massive floating rocks, whales, giraffes, and a rope bridge in front of you that you swear you could cross, it's mind blowingly good. :D

If I had a Samsung phone I'd definitely get one - even tempted to get an S7 for this very reason :p

Tried Quake 1 on Google Cardboard and it was enough to sell me on the idea. Not sure about the big screen mode though as it looks low res even using a 1440p phone.

It worries me that so many people are writing GearVR off as being too lowres yet are still shelling out a 500-750 quid on the Rift or the Vive. Really hope they aren't expecting a big improvement or their in for a bit of a disappointing experience

I am. The optics on the Rift are said to be miles ahead of the Gear. You only have to take the phone out of the headset to see how much of the panel is being wasted in the gear to realise how much more efficient it could be.

Do it. :) Yeah, I wouldn't want to watch a whole movie on the virtual cinema because of the low res. But I'm enjoying watching music videos on the big screen with in ear phones, and also short 3D movies are a blast. The Otoy 3D images alone are so breathtaking, it's worth getting the GVR.

My concern with the resolution is mainly for the 'big screen' features as it will be using maybe 1 quarter to 1 sixth of the overall screen if lucky. I haven't ordered a rift/vive as I still have the same resolution concerns (they are even lower than the phones?) and I would like to test first before paying that kind of cash...

Well, I'd reign in the optimism a tad personally ;) GearVR is a significant improvement over the DK2 resolution/screendoor wise, but the improvement from GearVR to CV1 and Vive is marginal in comparison. Games still look nowhere near 1080p quality

I bought Gunjack. It's like a version of 3d Phoenix from the 80's. It's very impressive and uses Unreal engine 4. Ideally played sitting in a swivel chair with room around you.

You control a turret shooting aliens attacking your ship. Where you look is where you shoot. Tap the side button to fire and swipe back to reload. There are bonuses and power ups to collect.

The immersion from this game is very impressive. Unlike when staring at flat screen, you do feel like you are actually within the game and you are controlling something real. I always feel like I know I am playing a game on my PC but with VR, it is something quite different and quite special. I cannot wait until PC VR becomes more affordable but this is a great substitute for now.

It is a bit of a gimmick though. Once you get over the feelings of awe, there isn't much substance to the game. I am looking forward to ED in VR.

Well unfortunately it's not quite the expensive product you guys are waiting on, but I received my humble controller today which will let me try Dreadhalls and some other games :) I'll set it up later and see how well it works with the GVR as it's not one of the officially supported ones like the Steelseries and Moga. Feels really quality in the hand though, like a premium product for just £18.

When I get home I'll try it out and see if there's any input lag.
Ì might try gunjack. I was going to buy Lands End which apparently is very good but incredibly short so might give it a miss .I'll try the Dreadhalls free demo and if I'm not scared out of my wits, might buy the full game. Temple Run and Smash Hits are great fun and free.

Oh, Anshar Wars is meant to be excellent.
