Samsung Gear VR review

The pad seems to work really great. Paired easily and no lag at all that I can perceive, it responds instantly. It's automatically mapping itself using exactly the same buttons as default for the game that the original Samsung gamepad uses.

One small thing though. On Temple Run, if I move left and right of the path I'm running along using the touchpad on the side of the headset, I stay where I moved myself until I use the pad again. With the Ipega controller, it moves me left and right just fine, but when letting go of the button, I get moved back to dead centre of the path. This isn't a problem for me, I just wonder if it's meant to be like that, considering the touchpad doesn't do that.

For anyone looking for a pad, driodbox is also lag and hassle free. If you don't switch it on before going into oculus, it connects no prob with a flick of the switch

Gear VR is the best headset for media consumption.Wireless. Simple as. Use a VPN app and download MilkVR pronto.

I mean VR Porn is pretty much going to be the new porn experience this year and you really don't want to have a wire tethered to you.

180 SBS. The 6 letters that you're going see a lot of in the internet and file folders.

;)

i bought a driodbox controller and it works really well

I'm enjoying gunjack

Any other suggested games people are enjoying?

Dreadhalls, Smash Hit, Espr and Espr 2 but the best thing so far is playing Quake in VR.

Amazing to behold. I had bought the ID pack from Steam so I have all the levels. There's also a version of Doom and Doom 2 but these are highly vomit inducing. Quake is OK though. I am hoping to see Quake 2 also converted.

I'd love to play Quake in VR, I'm gonana download sideloadVR.

Btw, I've been playing Herobound Gladiators on the Gear VR, really good fun! :D

You need to get the sideload app first.

Then you can download through it. Just go on the play store to get it. It's free. There are some instructions to follow but they are quite simple.

It's called Quake GVR.

Awesome buddy! I went through the developer/apk signature process and have just installed quake. I'll give it a go. Looks like I can download Zelda and walk around the land of Hyrule too!

I am about to drop £80 on this as I have an S6 edge.

Is it really worth it?

Does the experience give you an impression of the potential of VR?

My nan is 85 and she has alzheimer disease, I seen on youtube the 3D photos on it and thought it would be great for her to experience such a thing.

I know the is no depth perception, but over all even for 5min does it work?

Nice find!

It's definitely worth it. My mum is 89 and had a try on it and it wowed her. While the resolution is low, it most certainly puts you into jaw dropping virtual worlds and yes you'll know exactly the potential of VR just from this device. There is a huge amount of depth perception. Also, try and pick one up for around £50. Members Market is probably worth a look, as I know several people who recently bought an S7 weren't that excited about the Gear VR that came bundled free with the phone.

I've been playing around with one recently and I think it's amazing. I genuinely wouldn't mind watching all of my films on there as it really is like being at the cinema! The 360 photos app is pretty cool too.

I meant you cannot look at things closer in the Gear as in forward and backwards movements. From my understanding its up/down left/right.
No Z axis so to say.

Am tempted that's for sure.

Yes that's correct. It lacks that getting closer, ducking down, looking under a bed and peeking around corners ability that the Rift and Vive can do. But the immersion and sense of depth is there. Mountains and buildings look the same distance, size, height as you would see them in real life, and your eyes and brain perceive they're hundreds of feet or half a mile away or right in front of you. It's amazing how it's done.

What gear VR did for me was 100% sell me on the idea of getting a proper VR headset. VR is here and it works and its flipping ace and thats using a hacky £80 phone version.

I may however wait for 2nd generation vive/rifts, i'm in no particular rush and I'm probably going to need GPU upgrades etc anyway so its something Im happy to wait a year or two to do right.

I have just ordered a gear VR should arrive on Wednesday.

Looking forward to my very first experience in VR, if it blows me away then I will seriously think about getting a new rig for full VR.

Will update when it arrives and my first experience with it. ;)
