Bought two of these monitors today and was looking for a firmware update but could not find it on the website.

Does anyone know if there has been a firmware release for this monitor? If so, where do you find it on the website? Under the manual and downloads, I can see "Device Install" and some other monitor utilities but no mention of a firmware.

Thanks in advance.

Its released on their Korean site, but you should be able to easy download and install it, I did and it works.

You sir are a legend. Can't believe its been on there since January and Samsung have still not updated the UK site.

Samsung don't really seem to give a damn about actually providing updates or even information about their updates. As far as customer relations go they are a terrible company.

By the way, there are other files called "Easy setting" - any idea what those about?

It's a program that helps you setup specific zones on your monitor.

Yeah Samsung support is pretty terrible. Only option for tech support is to basically send it back which is ridiculous for a firmware update.

Luckily their Korean site has the latest firmware and it's pretty easy to update, Just format a USB stick with FAT32, Also has to be MBR if memory serves, Stick it on there and put it in the service port but it annoys me that they don't even have the decency to supply it on their UK or US sites and even on their Korean site they don't say what it does. I like their products but Samsung needs to learn how to communicate.

Yup, the update was easy enough to do.

Word of advice to others who have recently bought this monitor and or not overly content with the HDR side of things. After the update, I downloaded the windows HDR calibration tool and followed the instructions, I must say, it is a night and day difference in games for me. The games never looked this eye popping beautiful before. Cyberpunk 2077 looks incredible during day time, Jedi fallen survivor looks almost photorealistic outdoors and even non HDR games like Guild wars 2 look amazing - worth a shot.

Indeed, Makes a huge difference, The brightness of certain effects, Neon signs, The sun, Ship engines etc... looks amazing after proper calibration. I'd wager a lot of people with proper HDR monitors like the G7/8 aren't aware of Windows itself needing to be calibrated to the display using this tool considering it's an official Microsoft utility.

Samsung seem to be really bad at putting the latest firmware up on their sites and even worse at telling people exactly what they do.

Yea, I see a lot of companies like this, especially with devices that aren't as commonly updated. Things like routers, monitors and receivers, etc.
A few times in the past I've had reps sending me a link for updated firmware that they only seem to give you if you have a problem.
It's probably so that they don't get thousands of noobs (or unfortunate people) updating the firmware and screwing it up.

With the Neo G8 a 1007 firmware exists that has tweaked power consumption, Makes the monitor run cooler in both SDR and HDR but for some reason even though this firmware seems like something every G8 owner should have you can only get it by talking to customer support and then getting your ticket escalated to talk to an actual engineer.

That's interesting...
I just had a feel off of my G7 there and it does seem to be a lot cooler than it was previously. I can still feel a little heat from it if I put my hand right up close to the screen, but I really think it feels cooler now.
Before this I had definitely noticed heat from it at about 6 inches away.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if this was one of the tweak on the G7 firmware.

Since the Neo G7 uses a lot of power, I was keen to try the new firmware, and made the following measurements:

FirmwareBlacksRGB WhiteRec. 2020 WhiteDesktop
100335W75W75W75W
100735W76W76W76W

This is with Windows 10 with HDR enabled (disabling it makes no difference to power consumption, except that Rec. 2020 colours can't be displayed), HDR brightness set to 70%.

Black and sRGB white were obtained by setting a web browser to full screen and changing the background colour. Rec. 2020 white was a plain white HDR video played in VLC.

The 1W difference is within the margin of error.
