Hi all

I'm about to order 2x 1TB drives and am confused between the Samsung and the Seagate - I want something that's fast yet I'm a bit worried about Samsung's reliability.

Considering theyre virtually the same price, what do you guys think / recommend?

Samsung SpinPoint F1 1TB SATA-II 32MB Cache £66.99(£78.71)

Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 1TB SATA-II 32MB Cache £67.99(£79.89)

Samsung have no problem with reliability.

You get more reports of failed drives because more people are buying them.

I'd get a Samsung or a WD Blue (or one of each would be a sensible mix)

I now have more samsung drives than seagate only because the hd501lj was so cheap recently I just couldnt resist buying them. I do have one thats a little peeky on its smart data but so far it works good (touch wood)

Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 1.5TB SATA-II 32MB Cache

and

Samsung SpinPoint F1 1TB SATA-II 32MB Cache

Thank you for response;)

I'd go with the Samsung F1.

so out of those two above in my original post the Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 1.5TB is definitely the fastest for game loading/os boot times, and large file transfers but considering you only get an extra 500 GB of space for the price?

I chose the Samsung in the end. Just thought I'd let everyone know.

I regret it! It's DOA :(

Really? Hope mine isn't when it arrives. Ive been waiting a week for mine already because it got 'lost in the post'. Ill be pretty annoyed if its dead.. :(

Whats the problem with it? I had loads of issues until I did a full format.

Hard Disk Sentinel said:
Failure Predicted - Attribute: 1 Errors occured while reading raw data from a disk. Indicate problem with the disk surface or the read/write heads.
The drive found 1 bad sectors during its self test.
There are 1 weak sectors found on the disk surface. They may be remapped any time in the later use of the disk.
Replace hard disk immediately.

City link are bad for kicking parcels around but god knows what royal mail are like as i notice a lot of cheaper hard drives go via royal mail.
Personally I think a high percentage of DOA's are down to transit and not the manufacturer.
