San Diego 4000 vs Fx57

ahh, how do you disable nvidia driver dualcore patches ?

you learn something everyday, ta

There are speed revies which show singlecore to be quicker in games, I recon we need a definitive answer.

Just informed my bro who has fx57 & 7800gtx & this his comment:
oh yeah like a 3400amd with 9800pro flies! lol, i'll av get 9800xt ay be mint then eh?
everyone has there own opinion and deepending what system they got deepends what crap they say

dual-core optimisation is now inherent in nvidia's own gpu drivers and this unfortunately interferes with x2 optimisation patches available for these games, you frame rates will actually drop!
you need to disable NVIDIA's own optimisations to allow the patch to work correctly mate.
Indeed! this is discussed here

If the game has support for dual core you need to disable the nVidia dual-core option. SHould be sorted out with future driver revisions.

My bro & his fx57 @ 3ghz & 1x 7800gtx (3dmk6=4127) has put forward a relevant test and he knows my 3dmk6 too:

" ok, ill put a bet on eh? u do *** u like 2 your pc clocked as fast as it will go and i bet money that u wont be able to beat me in any game benchmarks??

still feel confident about dual core? "

m8 you go on a lot about your bros rig

heres a test for him, ask him if he would like to swap systems for good. I bet he would be unplugging his system even before you finish the sentence!!

82.65 drivers, both pc's same mobo/gfx card

fx57 @ 15x200 =3ghz 1x 7800gtx
quake3 v1.32 dualcore (1280x1024)=466 / 77.77 non dualcore driver=525fps
Fear v1.02 (1280 2x aa max)=36 56 107
COD2 v1.00 (1280 2x aa)= 77-91 fps

x24400 @ 11x 250 =2.75 1x 7800gtx
quake3 v1.32 dualcore (1280x1024)=393 / 77.77 non dualcore driver=505fps
quake3 v1.32 dualcore (1280x1024) / 2x7800gtx=426
Fear v1.02 (1280 2x aa max)=34 53 106
COD2 v1.00 (1280 2x aa max)= 33-77 fps
COD2 v1.01 (1280 2x aa max)= 31-54 fps

Fear is not far behind the fx57 even though clocked 250mhz slower, hope thats a sign of games to come.
Anyone know how to disable dualcore option in latest nvidia drivers ?.
I think singlecore rocks at the moment.

My 3dm6 score looks about right at 8k, get 13400 in 3dmk5.
Its just some games run very stuttery like COD2; it must be software related.
Just about to try the fix on that link.
Not good how with dualcore & nvidia, you need to mess with registry & fart around etc.
Will let you know if that fix sorts my probs, fingers crossed.

YAY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

COD2 is going better than ever before :)
1280 2x aa max = 86-91fps even on multi moscow, but with vsync enabled get 40-60fps.
I have yet to test other games but that dualcore fix, fixed it, perhaps a thread should be created to advise all X2 owners of this miracle speed increase.

So what's did you do?

Did you disable the nVidia driver multi-core and it all worked fine?

No doubt this will be fixed in a new driver release. . .

Not a miracle speed increase, its simply drivers workin as they should do. disable the nv x2 driver op and patch cod2, it will run even smoother, as if you need more than 86fps lol!
I will request a sticky for this as I've passed that link on quite a few times to help people with stuttery x2 system.
every game should play better now, your bro will be ******!

FULLY star your swear words.

I told him it was a mistake to spend £700 on a fx57; now I am justified, he could have gone dualcore & got an extra graphics card instead: recon a 4400 @ 2.4 & 2x 7800gtx be quicker than fx57 @ 3 & 1x 7800gtx hmm.
thx hesky

Does this stutter/low fps issue affect ATI gfx, or just those with Nvidia cards and drivers?

type of gfx isnt a factor, it is simply a dual core issue, sorted out as soon as you install the hotfix and amd x2 drivers, or install them again correctly. sp3 will of course resolve this "bug" but we will have to wait till summer for that.
not all dual core cpu's have this problem though, quite a lot of people with E6 revision cpu's done seem to have problems (dual opterons and later athlon x2's), seems a very common problem with early E4 stepping cpus.

googled:

nvidia driver op

and there are links to sights (who are also OcUK competitors) to find out how to disable nvidia dualcaore driver patch.
quote from a site:
<<<Then Nvidia got back to us about discovering that there was indeed a problem with their 80 series drivers from 81.84 and beyond. They believe their dual core optimizations in those drivers could be interfering with the new dual core support in Quake 4. They provided us with registry keys to add to disable dual core support in their drivers. Armed with this new information we benchmarked again. We tested again with the same hardware setup as the previous tests, and this time all testing was done manually using r_usesmp 0 and 1 to change the SMP mode on and off. Update: We have now been cleared by Nvidia to release the registry updates necessary to disable dual core support in the 80 series driver. Remember you edit your registry at your own risk.

1. Go into Regedit and determine the current primary display card by looking in HKey_Local_Machine\Hardware/DeviceMap\Video and note the GUID (global unique indentifier assigned by Windows) for the entry "\device\video0" which is the long string at the end of the entry in brackets { }.

2. Edit HKey_Local_Machine\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Video\{guid}\0000, where {guid} is the number derived from the above step.

3. Open the "0000" directory and enter a new key called OGL_ThreadControl and give it a value of 2. This will disable multithreading in the driver for all OGL apps.

4. In the same "0000" directory, to disable driver multithreading for all D3D apps, you can enter WTD_EXECMODEL and give a value of 0.>>>

I have yet to try this...
