In all the GTA style sandbox games you have played (GTA, The Getaway, Saints Row, Mafia, True Crime, Crackdown etc), what did you really like and what did you dislike. Also what would you really like to see implimented in future games in these series?

Imagine we were building our own GTA style game and wanted to include as many of the features from the above games as possible to make an Uber sandbox game, if you will ;) <--- I'm talking gameplay here as better graphics and a more stable framerate are a given ;)

I guess I had better start:-

The perfect sandbox for me would be built around the industry leader, GTA and would include the feel, atmosphere and humour of the series. I would like to see more varied gameplay in the missions though and the fighting could be more like True Crime.

It would be interesting if they could make some of the assassination missions you do a bit more open and less scripted, Hitman style, where you have various ways of reaching the objective.

Being able to scale buildings like in Crackdown would be really cool too. The city should be a playground and I want to explore up as well as ground level. I'm not saying I want to be super human, but just being able to climb things more would be good,

I have more to add but I need to get ready for work. Just wanted to get this thread started to see what people come up with.

Being able to go inside a many buildings. Wouldn't be too hard to engineer. Feasible on the PC, consoles probably couldn't do it without some delays. Insides don't need to be super detailed, extensive, and can be a little repetitive. But ti would be cool to walk into banks. Go into peoples houses to steal money. Bars to start fights.

I remember in Body Harvest on the N64 you could drive about a massive world but also go inside buildings.

A protagonist with some form of personality, Niko is the worst offender in the fact that at first it seemed like he was trying to avoid crime, now he just does whatever pays.

I would also like to be able to fully choose your role in that society. For example the ability to ally yourself with a particular gang or even become a police officer if you wanted.

More ways to make money and more ways to spend it. Eg car dealer, could even do it legit if wanted.

While rockstar put a huge amount of effort into creating a living breathing world for GTA4, so little effort was made to make you feel a part of it. That was my biggest niggle with GTA4.

Varied available conversations with NPC's. Not just the usual "hey mans whats up" comment from most of them.

More open buildings with no loading times. More shops and varied shops.

More customizable character (clothes, facial hair, body type etc etc)

Car/bike/boat/plane/chopper customisation to full extend. Body tuning, engine, tyres, suspension, paint work, decals.

Can add more but that will do it for now :p

Oh oh oh oh, customisable weapons as well.

GTA Gameplay, Mafia Storyline. Get rid of the stupid "babysitting" in the past couple of GTAs. E.g. In San Andreas with eating food etc and in GTA4 with the friends, its annoying and i dont want to do it. Also bring back buying new safe houses! Actually make money mean something in the damn game.

i suppose the ultimate goal would be complete sandbox and character interaction

gta is fine as it is - i think the ultimate achievement would be mission path branching
so that no two players played the same game
instead of having loads of babysitting missions - just fill them up with an optional system where missions take place depending on your financial/personal status within the game - the character builds personality on the way the player controls him
[for instance - if the player is violent and causes chaos - he becomes more prone to be hired by people who want him for that or if the character becomes a discreet killer he is hired on that merit for missions that involve that kind of play style]

obviously - this is just an idea - and implementation of this model would be very difficult

but i find myself talking to the guys at work about something we have all done
it would be better if we all had an individual story to tell on how our game has evolved

the only thing we would all have in common would be our start point

Realistic damage would be nice. So that you have to seriously think about something before you go ahead and do it.. rather than going in Rambo, in the process making a pistol just as deadly as any other gun :).

I have only just got into the game, not really liking the PC versions and not completing them, having a 360 with a controller really made it feel a lot better so im going to get a 360 remote receiver.

that said i really enjoyed the physics that GTA4 had and i loved the bone crunching falls, people grabbing the vehicles, rampaging.

I also really enjoyed the side missions but feel like the taking people out was a bit too silly for something to aid your percentage, i want to know any side missions i do dont feel boring and repetative. Like killing pigeons, collecting packages.

i want side missions to be involved, I really liked missions where you have the deadguy in the trunk and have to escort him while being chased by Mafiosa Mobs.

More upclose fatalities would be a bonus as well, being able to do differant ending fatalities at the end of a mission.

i have many more ideas but not much more i can think of at the moment.

Then dont do it!

Sheesh Why do people insist on making themselves look stupid by complaining about optional gameplay parts.

I will back up the idea of going into lots (if not all) buildings.

Oh heres a biggie! Destroyable buildings! Imagine some of the fun in multi player with people still inside buildings when you blow them up! lol

Multiplayer pubs!

There should be more pubs, and the pubs should all be enterable, in multiplayer mode, so on certain evenings, we can all meet up, grab "actual real life beer" (tm) and use voice chat, have a pub jukebox streaming to all logged in people, hell, could even have a Thursday night karaoke! lol

Hmmm, now I think about it, I guess we could pull this off in Home!
Set up somebody's appartment as a pub, and... I'll get me coat!

V1N.

I can't wait for GTA:IV to come out onto PC, so we can begin modding it. I fancy adding some of the things that were lost from San Andreas (eg bicycles and parachutes).

Or.... just go to the pub.

That would indeed be much better!
But still, a virtual pub, for a quick beer and chat after a multiplayer session on whatever.

To be honest, the comment was just made tongue in cheek, the sun in shining, and I think I fancy going to a beer garden ;)

I would like the ability to rise through the ranks. I don't mean in the GTA sense where you just start working for someone with a bit more power....

This would mean you end up with people working for you, you can send them to kill people, deal drugs etc etc to make money for you. However, there are rival gangs and you can't go around killing them without repercussions. Eventually you end up as the kingpin of a city with maybe hundreds of guys under your control.
