Hi Guys,

There doesn't appear to be much in this sub-forum on the topic of sandwiches so I thought we could start a thread to share ideas of some good combinations to make at home. I'm not talking about a piece of meat or cheese in between 2 slices of mass produced bread but something a bit more special. I eat sandwiches at work more often than not and it would be nice to have a few ideas to try! If you can some pictures would be nice as well.

I'll start off with one that I am particularly into at the moment. I don’t know what to call it but it it tastes great!

Beef Pastrami with mayo, American mustard, Jarlsberg and gherkins sandwiched between Ciabatta.

That looks like a great sandwich. Goto be tried.

I've been living on cheese and ham for the past 10 years. Sometimes with added lettuce... Would be nice to do something different.

Made a shooters sandwich the other day.

Rump steak, bacon, mushrooms and shallots with some thinly sliced double gloucester. Put it in a hollowed out tiger loaf - wrap in greaseproof and foil then crush for a few hours.

Delicious delicious dense sandwich.

I get the appeal of the shooters sandwich if, as designed, I wanted something epic to eat on the move but for eating at home I kinda side with SeriousEats - that arguably better to just eat the separate components on a plate rather than stuff and squish them all together - a sandwich being less than the sum of its parts so to speak. That said I haven't tried making a shooters yet so I'm withholding judgment for now :p

I used to like pastrami sandwiches from delis but since having a 'proper' pastrami place in SB, they are almost uniformly disappointing in comparison (apart from the ones I've had in New York). Fresh sliced pastrami crisped up on the griddle, served hot reuben-style is just mouth-wateringly epic.

The place was featured on Diners, Dives and Drive-ins here - http://www.foodnetwork.com/videos/nortons-pastrami-sandwich-0181326.html - hopefully the video works as it shows how awesome the sandwiches are :D

Great idea for a thread. Love sandwiches, but struggle for ideas

One of my favourites:

Tuna, sweet chilli, sliced boiled egg, iceberg, fresh coriander, on something crusty.

Serve with lightly salted tortilla chips.

some creative sandwiches here, I'm gonna give that shooters a shoot sounds perfect for a all day epic on the bike

I have a panini press so I usually just chuck everything in there. One of my favourites is - Cheese, pepperoni, jalapeños, onion and salsa. Pretty simply but tasty.

Something like that? :D

One of my faves has to be American mustard, soujuk (spicy Turkish sausage) Mexican cheddar (infused with jalapeños) and beef pastrami. All in a tiger bread. And ever so lightly toasted

fantastic :D

I do mine with slightly thicker cheese and meat. Looking at your pics made me hungry. If I get round to making one of these bad boys at the weekend i'll post a pic :)

Also - I highly approve of the size

I'm hugely hooked on a a good old fashioned classic Cheese and Tomato, so simple yet so amazing if done right. Needs to be strong cheese and ripe flavoursome tomatoes, ideally left for a while so the whole thing is a little sweaty and warm... perfection!!!

Sadly I'm off bread really so I tend not to eat them now :(

Great pic Randal!, some excellent ideas so far. Does anyone have a receipe for a really good Chicken Salad Sandwich? I find just using mayo makes it a bit bland but mustard isn't really the right condiment? Caesar dressing maybe?

Toasted ciabatta with brie, peppered salami and sun-dried tomatoes using the panini press. Nom!

If no ciabatta, I make it in a baguette and microwave it for a few seconds until the cheese starts to melt, then stick it in the panini press. Comes out similar to a ciabatta and contents are nice and hot. I sometimes vary the cheese with this one, sometimes using gouda and stilton.

This thread inspired me yesterday so I created quite an awesome sandwich.
