Sandy 2500K Or Asus P8P67 Pro looks to be dying

Right, that's it. Memtest has completed 2 passes without issue.
I'm confident that the CPU is at fault and will try and RMA it.

I hope this is not a bad omen for Sandy Bridge and that I have just been unlucky.

Looking back at my day, the CPU seems to have become less and less stable as the day progressed. I thought that the tweaks here and there that I was making were just not working, It was only when I tried to get back to where i was yesterday (4.6 stable) that I started to realise something was wrong.

The first symptoms were that it crashed more when running an application while at 4.6 then it was fine at stock but any over clock caused a blue screen. Then just leaving it sat in windows at stock would cause a blue screen after about 5 minutes. Finally, where I am now that it will not even install windows at stock.

Honestly, what do you expect when you overclock a CPU? I mean, did you try it at stock speeds? Plus isn't the warranty void if you overclock?

Welcome to Overclockers UK, here we like to clock the tittys off of anything with a pulse not just computer components ;).

Quoted for truth.

I doubt very much that its the clocking that has had any effect anyway, this one has only been at 4.7 and 1.4v, there are others running 1.6v through these (yes they are almost certainly a few sandwiches short of a picnic).

I hope, and am confident, that this is just an isolated issue. Sadly there ARE always some that slip through Quality Control.

Best of luck either getting it running or getting the RMA done.

Maybe worth giving this a test.. It's spotted bad cpus for me in the past, make sure to use the right one for 32bit and 64bit os. Also download the manual too will explain what you need to have installed to make it work.
Run it at stock at 1st then try a mild overclock then the overclock you want to use and see if it fails at any..

thats terrible simon i hope you get this resolved soon.and hopefully others can pop in and share if they too went to 1.4v and for how long.it does sound like a dodgy cpu though and just might be a one off hopefully!

im sure quite a few people who have went to 1.4+ are now crapping themselves :P

Bad luck mate.

Just remember when dealing with Intel dont tell them you used a 3rd party cooler as it invalidates any warranty also never tell them you overclocked as that does the same.

Ive had a few dealings with Intel directly before and they leave a lot to be desired.

Ive also had dealings with a Etailer when a CPU failed it was hard work. (that's why i went to Intel who were even worse)

To be honest its the only reason im running an AMD rig at the moment, its taken me a year to get over the immense rage i had for Intel and Asus :)

That would be fine, but as I can't install an OS now I cant run this test.

Yeah, I noticed that. But for an even basic level of logic, the OP really should have changed all the CPU speeds and voltages to the default settings to see if it's really the CPU at fault or the actual overclocking causing the problem?

Yes?

No offence but did you read the thread? He has even underclocked the frequency and it still crashes. :)
