Well after days of umming and arring and debating which platform to upgrade to ive finally decided on Sandybridge.

Now the only thing to decide is what mobo.

Narrowed it down to :

Asus P8P67 vanilla, Gigabyte P67A-UD3P or MSI P67A-GD55

Usually i go for asus boards and have never had an issue with them but iom a bit put off by issues they seem to be having, although it would appear that asus are on the case rectifying these problems. Havent had much experience with gigabytes and the MSI seems ok, especially as it has SLI support giving me thr option to get another GTX460 later on. So which board gets your recommendation? Has anyone got a MSI board?

I really want the Asus but despite peoples assurance there is no inherent issues with them there just seems to be too many people experiencing trouble. There is even an issues thread - I've not seen a single MSI complaint at all.

So reluctantly it looks like I'm going for the MSI over the Asus :(

Asus Pro or Delux!

See my post which issues the fix.

Ah hadnt noticed the pro was the same price as the GD65. Looks like i can still squeeze my PCI XC-Fi in as well with SLI

EDIT : Fox youve pretty much summed up my thoughts there. I always choose asus but dont want to end uyp with a lemon

It's really hard to choose because of the whole 'There is nothing wrong with the Asus!!!' stuff thats going on. I appreciate more Asus boards than MSI boards have been sold but the Asus issues are just everywhere :(

Asus today have JUST released the update to fix the cold boot issue. Dont know why your worrying Fox its been fixed. Ive installed it and its sorted my board out and many others.

Is that the only problem people were having with it? No other issues? If so I'll probably order one.

Yep the cold boot issue was a mad one but was fixed by clearing the CMOS for somepeople. Then the BIOS came and fixed it for good.

Mines been in for a week now and hasnt been any trouble. For a new platform I was expecting lots of issues.

Well ive changed my mind again. Got halfway to ocuk and turned back :(

Ive seen reports that the MSI boards sometimes dont post and the gigabytes have issues with vdroop.

Ive made a final decision now - i7 on P55

Aren't you going to be a little disappointed going from Q6600 @ 3.6 to i7? I would've thought that wasn't a very big upgrade tbh

Dunno really but i really haver the itch to upgrade and i know for sure i will be very dissappointed if i went Sandybridge only for it not to work right

Yeah, I know what you mean, but make sure you do your homework or you could end up even more disappointed if the upgrade isn't quite what you thought it would be.

Not worth getting the P55. Its going EOL and its now out of date.

Sandybridge is the way. I upgraded from a QX6700 and at stock settings it makes light work of everything. My SB rig is working fine. Id say give it a whirl.

True enough but its what im calling a 'free upgrade' :p

Recently renewed my phone contract and got a nice new TV with it. So the cash i got my my older TV and the cash i should get for the 775 stuff its going to cost me hardly anything.

I more than liley will decide when im standing in Ocuk waiting to be served :p
