Not quite, check this review > not the i7920 at 3.6, roughly the same speed as a stock 2500k/2600k, performs very well against them. So i7920 at anything up to 4.4 will perform even better against the 2500k/2600k, don't get me wrong its a cracking bit of kit. Its a shame about the mobo fault spoiling it, ;) so for most i7920 owners its not a worth while upgrade. :)

Review - http://www.hardocp.com/article/2011/01/03/intel_sandy_bridge_2600k_2500k_processors_review/3

Well I updated from a i7 950 with corsair gt triple channel ram and from personnel experience I can say that the 2600k at 4.7 gig on 1.35 volts wipes the floor with it and only 2 channel memory, yes it is a shame about the pending recall but I have always adopted new tech early on but that is my preference, caution to the wind and all that

Just out of interest, what are ASRock boards like quality wise and how reliable are they as a company?

That board on the statement looks awesome! I want one.

They are a budget brand. BUT they are rock solid, I've been running an asrock dual sata2 for years. It has an AGP slot AND PCIexpress :D They were renowned for playing around like that. I think they created a DDR2 and DDR3 hybrid board not long ago!?

but anyways, in my opinion, considering they're budget, they're also damn good.

My ASROCK 939Dual-SATA2 was the only motherboard I ever retired from active service with nothing wrong with it. Lasted me 5 years with an overclocked CPU for the last 2.

That was a really cheap board too. Wouldn't hesitate to get another ASROCK.

[Q7777]QUOTE=ademcg;Erm....No I would like it to work 100% as intended please or GTFO.

Was That really needed.
All there Trying to do is help ppl who r Worried.

ahh are they really...well I don't actually own a board, but if I did I would not be a happy bunny, the flagrant disregard once again for the UK consumer and their expectation to be treated properly.

We have sold you something of not insignificant value, it doesn't really work, might fry other related componentry,,,HDD's etc....but buy a seperate gizmo and all is well.
Well no it isn't.

Rant over.

....They offer a way to keep their mobo and chip without danger to any of their components.... HOW DARE THEY.

From what i've read also, it doesnt damage hardware when these ports finally give, it simply stops working. So the drive just wont be picked anymore.

And lastly, what do you mean with regards to treating consumers badly? As far as I'm aware, the defective boards are going to be replaced\refunded\recalled without fuss?

Which to be honest, If i had a board, i'd not even bother, and i'd go down the route of a sata2 controller card.

ocuk are still selling P67 ???

shrewd

If you're not going to use the faulty ports for anything other than a storage drive or DVD then the motherboards are fine. OcUK are leaving it open to people to buy them or not. It's not as if they're trying to conceal anything or pass them off as something else. I see no problem.

Waited for the EVGA P67 and luckily dodged this chipset issue in doing so. Think they were due this February but guess it be April now when we'll see them. Oh well, don't mind waiting. Can't find official word on EVGA forum yet.

:D

Hope the February ETA is still on then.

Very very unlikely, considering the new chips aren't even made yet and are a month away, and Intel would be mad not to prioritise replacements for their biggest customers and ask them to prioritise replacing people like Dell's supply asap it seems very unlikely.

I'd think very very late Feb will be the earliest they will get a shipment of chips, then they've got to stick them into the boards, ship them to distro's, then to retail shops, then to customers.

Intel have basically gotten Asus/Gigabyte/MSI to ship millions of duff mobo's, they'll be incredibly angry if EVGA get early shipments of the new chips to release completely new mobo's before they get vast shipments to start swapping out faulty boards.

Sweet, definitely worth a look then. I'm undecided about buying a board now or waiting until April... the whole SATA issue doesn't affect me but something tells me if the chipset is having issues with voltages/temperatures it may cause problems with the 6gbps connectors in the future

I hope when its all sorted in a month or 2 i can pay the extra and upgrade to a pro or deluxe version :O

If not cry, play up a stink etc
