** SAPPHIRE CUSTOM 290's ARE ON THE WAY!! **

Well obviously I don't know how far they pushed the cards, but that doesn't change the fact we have two reviews on this card and the highest OC is 1110 so far.

Maybe you should point out that your results are from cards with a significant price premium and that users with the ordinary non-reference cards are unlikely to achieve the same results. :)

The review clearly points out it is a GTX 780 Classified, how much more clearer do you want this?

The 290 results, were with reference cards, anyone can buy, and as other members have posted they to have achieved the same results.

Again how much clearer do you want me to make it.

You wrongly accused me, you were wrong, accept that fact. :)

Crap i hope you're not talking about me. <paranoia>

Yes your banned from OcUK as of 2014.

;)

Only joking, to be honest no idea, only one name rings a bell to me and its not you and I am not going to name and shame anyone, but our RMA department will no doubt have a hit list as will any other company.

But like I say, OcUK is not so fussed, why we've done nothing about it. So don't worry.

I don't understand why some think that an big OC is somehow their right?

There's nothing guaranteed when you buy a card, I think of it as a bonus.

It's not often I stand up for a business, but I think people who regularly send back cards because they don't OC as they would like them to, should be ashamed of themselves.

I think it's a disgusting practice tbh.

Always considered OC to be luck of the draw (unless its sold as OC to a certain degree and then isnt stable, but thats not the same)

How many have you sent back, could this explain the shortage of HD 7990s.:D

Haha. Hey for the record i sent back my OcuK 7990 as one core was reaching 105c in sleeping dogs while the other was 85-90c. It was within tolerances apparently so i dsr'd. I was worried i might damage the mobo though to be fair. The next 7990 i got (from elsewhere shhh) had identical temps though so that was more like it and they were 80-84c.

Lol i hope im not on that hitlist. I better send Bailey a Christmas card this year. :p

I might be buying a couple of reference 290's (non X) from OcuK over the weekend. I'm hoping i can negotiate the price down a tad though. ;)

We have stock, many do not, our pricing is within £15 of most competitors lowest with no stock but were giving BF4 and two free games with most, so any price difference you can more than get back. :)

MSI buy those as plenty left, Sapphire is nearly sold out now, the miners are still hitting our stocks hard, litecoin value has double in past 48hrs since the big drop of the China news.

I don't really care, I just hope some users read this and don't expect the same results that you posted.

1200-1300 is the normal overclocking range for a non-reference GTX780.

Not 1300-1400, if you reach that high with a stock cooler you should count yourself very lucky indeed.........

Agreed, you get what you get when it comes to overclocking. I've never returned a card for this reason and never would.

Buying premium card itself is no guarantee of a better overclock compared to one costing £50-100 less.

Yeah i was looking at the MSI ones. If i do get them (depends how much my 7990 sells for ;)) then ill be running stock and under volted (hopefully) to keep noise and temps down, so a poor overclocker won't be an issue.

I am going to be placing an order tonight for a reference 290 as I need a new card for christmas.

I have been holding out for the last 6 weeks for an after market cooled version but know I won't get one now for christmas so that why am going to order a reference version.

Can someone please confirm that even if I have throttling on the 290 that it will still perform better than a 280x?

Will it be quiet when at idle surfing the web and watching video?

Many thanks :)

If your case has good airflow and you set the card up right in over-drive it shall be fine.

Simply set the following.
Power Target +50
GPU Temp target 85-90c
Max Fan speed 50-60%

This should keep you at acceptable noise when gaming with little to no throttling and web browsing should be silent.

Matt finally sees sense and abandons Tahiti for 290 xfire. :D

Welcome to the new age, to the new age

Its not definite, but its looking likely. If im not happy with the price i get for my 7990 i won't bother and will just keep it. If i get £575-£600, we're in business. ;)

I'll be sorry to see it go tbh. Nice piece of kit, but i can't turn a £200 profit down.

That's great, many thanks.

A reference 290 will perform better than a highly overclocked non reference 280x?

You won't hear it for desktop/video use.

I'll stick my neck out and confidently state an AC Extreme will keep the 290 quieter and cooler than any AIB custom cooler, it's a Peperami. :D
