The SAPPHIRE R9 280X TOXIC features SAPPHIRE Vapor-X technology which is a sophisticated integration of digital power IC, DirectFet, and four new Black Diamond heatsink chokes on a high density 10 layer PCB. This technology is capable of supplying 60 Amps power per phase on demand, which is 20 Amps more than the HD 7970 reference design. With a suitable PSU! Compared to the reference board, Sapphire's Vapor-X technology provides more headroom for overclocking with a power efficiency of over 90%. Sapphire provides efficient power whenever the GPU needs it.

The new Tri-X cooling technology is a combination of the optimized cooler module, new 10mm heatpipe and Triple fan. As a result, the new cooler is 20% quieter than the previous Toxic HD 7970 GHz Edtion.

Key Features:-
- Triple Fan cooler, 30% more airflow and 20% quieter than the previous Toxic HD 7970 6GB card.
- Optimize dual module design, the new fin and heatpipe placement improves the airflow offer 50% more efficiency in heat dissipation.
- Anti-Dust bearing, Enhance the reliability for the fan cooler.
- Memory cooling, the cooler module also cools the memory chip for the best stability and offers more OC headroom.

Check out the Kitguru Review, it beats all other R280X for performance out the box and when you overclock this bad boy, it is right on the heels of GTX 780, but at £200 less makes this card an absolute bargain, read the review for yourselves:-

OcUK will be first with stock and potentially the only Etailor with stock for a while as we were first to order in the UK. :)

Sapphire using Zotac colours now?

Looks a nice card. AMD have a good strategy going. 85-95% performance of a GTX780 at just over half the price of the cheapest one. :)

I suspect I'll end up ordering this sexy beast, although I'll wait until the 290 price is revealed, just to be sure.

The things that put me off this card are:
1) it looks like that cooler is a little wider than a normal 2 slot cooler?
2) It's a custom PCB (I believe) so unlikely to get any waterblocks made for it.

To be fair, if you are buying a card with this kind of cooler on it, you probably are not looking to watercool it.

I believe the card itself is better than stock, not just the cooler. So there are other reasons to buy it than just the cooler. Performance for example, possibly more OC headroom, so watercooling may still be desirable.

Aren't all 2xx cards non reference or is that only the 290x?

As I said in the preorder thread with all the other cards, I'm tempted by this but trying to resist for now and go with the 290x/gtx780 in the future.

The orange cooler is a bit of a shame for me(if I did end up getting this) as I'm going for a black/red colour scheme. The orange cooler would be a moot point in the near future as I'm planning on watercooling, however that depends on there being a full water block for it as I don't think I'm comfortable with having a GPU only block with separate memory coolers.

Oh and gibbo this being faster than all 280x out of the box, so does that mean the Asus matrix platinum as well which is over £300? What does the matrix have(other than a triple slot cooler) that means its in the £300-£400 price bracket rather than the £200-£300 like the rest of the current 280x?

Edit: just saw the graph, still the question regarding why the Asus is more expensive yet slower. Does the Asus oc better by any chance making it faster?

The Asus supports six monitors, compared to the Sapphires four monitors, quite a unique feature and of course the additional premium for the Asus is the Asus Tax. ;)

Oh right, while the colour scheme goes with my build I don't think I can justify the extra £50 over the toxic, don't think I'll be going 4 monitors left alone 6.

Oh noticed the res the cards were tested at, how will it equate to @1440 res rather than 720 res? I have a dell u2711 monitor as I mentioned in another thread.

If I preorder this do you take payment instantly or upon shipping? Also if I get tempted by a 290 instead if it's a reasonable price time can I transfer my payment as part payment?

Thanks
