SAS Drives

Anybody know why OcUK don't sell these drives?

Low demand?

SAS drives are expensive compared to their SATA counterparts, and most people who look into buying them get put off by the additional price of the SAS controller card.

I did it myself and recently and decided SAS wasn't worth it.

Well the only time I uses SAS drives is for servers at work so maybe thats the reason why as it's more server orientated.

Yep, as above. SAS is Server orientated hardware, OcUK is mainly home user.

Did OCUK ever sell SCSI?

I would image they dont sell SAS due to the price.
SATA = Home = Lots of storage - cheap.
SAS = Servers = Fast with data protection technologies and typically smaller drives - expensive.

There were selling 15k Cheetahs until about a month ago + cards.

Had a decent announcement in the section about 3ware SAS and SATA cards.
Still seem to have plenty left. I guess that people just weren't buying them.

I have a spare Adaptec 5405 so going to go with Some SAS drives on my next rig, as can get some nice drives to go in RAID0 that should be good.
Only doing as have the spare 5405 though.
