sata 3 cables?

hey all first off let me say sorry if this is a noob question!
and i searched first but couldnt find anything.

my question is; do sata 3 ssd's require sata 3 cables :confused:

? or do normal sata cables work ?

No you need sata 3 cables. I got two with my sata 3 mobo.

EDIt: The above only applies if connecting to a sata 3 board. If just connecting to sata 2 then normal cables are fine.

Ok now im confussed. Im gwttin a sata 3ssd and asus re3 do either come with sata. 3 cables or do they not exist?

I got two sata3 cables with my new motherboard (it has on-board sata3)

I assume that sata3 mobo's will come with the cables

Normal cables are fine regardless. You don't need SATA 3 cables.

Not quite true. You may get away with it but to ensure maximum performance you need sata 3 cables with a sata 3 driave and mobo.

thank you guys lol i figured that id need sata 3 cables, and yea i am gettin a sata 3 mobo, my only other question,, do crucial sata 3 ssd's come with sata 3 cables, or does the rampage extreme 3 come with them?

I doubt the disk will but the board should. Look at the online version of the manual for the MOBO. It will tell you what is in the box.

There was no change in cable specification for Sata 6Gb, manufacturers may be selling 'enhanced' cables but the only spec. change for Sata 6Gb is in the controller.
