SATA cables - which way around?

Just got a couple of new SATA cables and interestingly one end has a stickly label which says 'DRIVE' and the other end has one which says 'SYS BRD' suggesting that they have to be connected this way around.

I know that IDE cables have specific motherboard connector (usually blue) but I've never come across this is SATA before.

Does it really matter which way they are connected, or are the stickers just nonsense?

Thanks for replies :)

I thought they could just be connected either way round, suppose will have to wait for somebody who knows what they are talking about.

It doesn't matter which end you use. They've probably only done it to stop people asking them which way round the lead goes. Either way if you plug the "HD" end onto the board, it'll still work fine.

Only diffenence is the right angled ones . . . but you could use them the wrong way round. Wouldnt make any difference. Otherwise they would have different ends on them.

I'd put it this way, I've never checked which way round I've connected them other that to make sure I line up the notch correctly and I've not had a problem with the hard drive working. A SATA cable is a SATA cable and works either end, just like it will work with a "SATA II" drive e.g. a drive which can support features of the enhanced SATA standard because officially there is no such thing as SATA II. :)

Cheers for replies.

Pretty much confirms what I thought. I think that Trippynet's theorry might well be right, that they've probably only done it to stop people asking which way round the lead goes

Think I'll pull the stickers off anyway :D
