SATA hard drive test

I'm currently suffering from crashing problems with my PC and i'm trying to narrow down the problem.

I've used Drive Fitness Tests in the past, but all of them only work with IDE/SCSI. Can anyone point me in the direction of a good SATA drive test.

What make is your drive? The manufacturer will normally have the software your after on their website. You can also use something like speedfan to check the SMART status of the drive.

Well that's interesting.
Downloading and installed Speedfan, ran the program and my machine turned itself off.

Now when i turn on speed fan, under readings it says "Unable to use I/O"
