Hi Guys

Have started to read up on SSD and just as a guide I have benchmarked my current hard drives, I have a Raptor 150G and also 2 x Seagate 500G set to Raid 0

On a percentage basis what increase would I see if I upgraded to SSD 128Gb

Can only afford one drive as things are tough at the moment so I will have to decide, do I install as drive C with Windows 7 installed or Drive E for gaming performance

Thanks for taking the time to reply

Reason for going to SSD isn't so much about the read/write performance - they are much much quicker seeking - so OS is more responsive, etc., cooler and generally silent.

Generally they will easily top out a top end HDD on transfer rates - tho the latest seagates can give them a good run on raw read performance.

Ive got 2x 30GB Vertex drives in RAID0. Crystal Mark results are odd, 512K read is better than sequential haha, thought it was meant to be less?

And then using AS benchmark which is specifically for SSD's

ok many thanks for taking the time to reply, I think I will wait rather than upgrade now

Don't count on prices coming down any time soon. They've been rising for the past couple of months and will probably stay high most of next year too.

I could sell my drive on ebay and get at least £25 more than i paid for it, but i won't becasue my system is so much more pleasant to use. It's one of those things you need to actually try to really appreciate the difference - like getting a big TV.

Give it half a decade for the tech to mature and slap the prices down. USB sticks were once astronomically priced too.

Won't increase FPS in Crysis but it will load it faster to memory to start with, say 28 seconds instead of 36 seconds from a fast SATA2 HDD.

Plus of course everything else that requires having a rummage in the HDD will be quicker to load.

Luxury item in the end.
