I'm currently in the process of buying new bits to build a new PC.
Storage wise, I've been looking at a 1TB SSD like the Samsung 860 EVO/Crucial MX500 or a 660p M2 NVME drive for my main boot drive.

I'm thinking of purchasing a SATA HDD for installing games/software to plus movies and music so not to clog up the boot drive.

What is recommended for best speeds and reliability? I would probably be looking at 2-4TB options I think.

It's been nearly 10 years since I last looked at drives so I'm even unsure if that would be the best route to go now!!

Don't get a HDD get another 1tb or more ssd.

Embrace cloud storage.
Do you really need 4tb ?

As above, more people are drifting towards non-mechanical drives in new builds.

If you're one where you've got several TBs of films/music, then buy a Low powered NAS to install it on.

Not sure I'm seeing the sense is recommending an SSD for bulk media storage, myself. For games sure, but HDDs certainly still have their place.

WD Black if you want fast,I went for a 3TB Toshiba last year, that gave a very good value to £ ratio.

As above - go all SSD if you can afford it, but if just media files then get a HDD (I use Toshiba X300 4TB)

However - if the files have value to you then having so much stuff on a single drive is asking for trouble, so might be worth considering a basic NAS

I'm happy using a large mechanical HDD for bulk storage. I just chuck all my rarely used stuff on it.

4TBs of SSD for media/steam drive is too expensive.

Sorry all, Didn't even realise I had so many replies to this.

I wouldn't mind considering two SSD's. I may do that and also just keep my existing 1TB mechanical. I'm still swithering over NVME or stick with a 'regular' SSD.

A question for you all.
Would it be better to have a 500Gb SSD for Windows and another 2Tb SSD for data

Or

2 X 1TB?

I've noticed the 500Gb mx500 dipping under £50 now and the 1Tb is £115. Good chance it will drop a bit more?
