Sata mode selection?

I've just been taking a look in my BIOS for the first time and noticed a setting called 'sata mode selection'.

I have a Sata HDD but 'IDE' mode was selected so I changed it to 'AHCI' and my PC wouldn't boot until I changed it back to IDE.

Is this normal? Bit confused...

yes its normal,for ahci to work then do this reg hack,

if not you need to set to ahci in the bios first and reinstall windows

not much if your using a hdd,but youll see big speed gains in read/write if using ahci mode with an ssd

it enables built in features like native command queuing and other stuff i dont know about

Would it be worth reformatting in AHCI mode or shouldn't I bother?

click that reg file i posted in the link,click it reboot into bios set sata mode to ahci,boot into windows and win7 will install the ahci drivers and thats it

no need to reinstall,done and tested it many times

no need for a reg hack - just use the M$ tool

All that 'tool' does is apply the reg hack
