Is it worth getting rid of my 2 x sata150 diamondmax 9 160gb in RAID 0, for
2 x sata300 drives when I update desktop? Would this be faster? If so what drives would you recommend?

Any speed difference will be due to improvements in drive design not from a move to SATA2, even the fastest SATA2 disks can't come close to saturating the bandwidth available to SATA1.

The DiamondMax 9 series is pretty old these days so it's fair to say that an upgrade to newer disks will give you a fair improvement. Depending on when you're planning on upgrading the Seagate 7200.10s and WD AAKS drives are the quickest 7200rpm drives out there, the 150Gb Raptors are quicker but small. If you're planning on waiting a 2 or 3 months then the Hitachi 7K1000s should be pretty special and the Seagate 7200.11s possibly quicker still but they're probably still 6-9 months away.

Difficult to tell without knowing how fast your current setup is running.

Try downloading a copy of HDTach or HDTune and running it against your current disks. You can then compare the numbers to the benchmark thread in this forum (there are a few older threads with benchmarks but they're tricky to find).

Your talking smallish improvements in the region of 10-20% at best in certain circumstances. I'd suggest you spend the money on other aspects of the PC unless you need a new drive for extra storage space.
